Ah yes, just get an XDS. Trust me you'll have TONS of problems with it.
My LGS called today and said that my Shield came in, I cancelled it.

For those who don't think it wise to buy the first edition of something mechanical, if you have any 1956 vintage Pre 29's, let me know and I will gladly take them for their full retail value when new!

I agree......And if you have a 1967 Chevy Camaro SS or RS. I too would gladly take it off your hands for a cheap price, hehe

I can respect your opinion, and there are guns I simply will not buy because I don't hold them to the same standard as the ones I like.
I do hope that you can respect mine when I say this gun has been out less then a year.
To date I have never heard of a single model that has never had a problem somewhere down the line.
Sometimes flukes happen, I know I probably do my job as best as possible 98 percent of the time.
Mistakes happen but Smith & Wesson has a good history of making problems right if it is their fault.
It's your money and your well within your right not to buy, but maybe don't be so hasty to judge.

Hey, this is America, & the OP is entitled to express his opinion. Maybe he'd be more comfortable to wait a year or so when the bugs can be worked out, every store will have some in stock, & the price will stabilize. The frenzy will be over by then, & we'll be able to bargain with the stores selling them, rather than pay a premium & being told if you don't want it, there's 10 other guys on the list who do. GARY

My LGS often has Shields in Stock So do to all the Talk on here I looked one over I was not that all impressed & will not be getting one,I May pick up a 3913 if the right one comes along,If a Shield works for you & you like it I am sure it's a good choice it just didn't do anything for Me.

I agree XD's are definitely not high on my list of good pistols.

Ahhhh!No my toes are fine, however I didn't trash talk the design of a new firearm,nor did I infer that everyone that bought one is a sucker. there are ways you could have written your post that was less inflamatory, but it seems you wanted to evoke a battle and then when some responded negatively you didn't like it, you said that six others turned down buyin the one you were offered, so maybe they already found one , or couldn't afford to buy it ! All this and you havn't even shot one, and thats okay, Its, your money and hopefully you will find something else,that trips your trigger. Do you think that the lawyers that Smith & Wesson utilizes would leave a defective product on the market and oprn themselves to lawsuits? Like others have said in this thread a minor glitch that has a fix.

Define defective. A gun that has the occasional mag problems might not grab the lawyer's attention, but a gun that blows up in the shooter's face will definitely stop production & cause a recall. If there is a legit problem with the gun, they will address it, but it's not a liability issue. That's what seems to matter these days. GARY

Well like Rockyriver I'm new here , but one thing is very clear, if you don't share the popular opinion you'll get a flame job. Then the piling on begins. There is a problem with the Shield .40. My LGS knows it and so does S&W.

Actually I've found folks here to be very nice so long as you don't do a flame job while expressing a contrary opinion. Nobody would blame someone for deciding to wait to buy a gun that might still have some bugs in it, or choose a different model. When you call people who buy that gun "victims" and "suckers", what do you expect in return?

On another forum composed mostly of hard use folks, the 9mm Shield has gotten great reviews after a lot of shooting - thousands of rounds each by many users. The .40, not so much, which is not an issue to me as I have no use for a .40 in any platform for many reasons (but if I were in an agency that required the .40 I would without doubt go with the M&P). Given the # of pistols produced, and the pressure to get them out, some number of flawed items are going to show, especially if the post manufacturing QA reviews are not what they should be. Contracting out small parts stuff makes it worse.
I have seen more disparaging reviews of the .40 Shield than the 9, but still not a lot. If you are not confident in the pistol, don't buy it. Anything made by humans is going to have a risk of flaws, and the Shields (and other M&P models) have a lot fewer documented problems. Not none, but WAY better than the Gen 4 glocks and the XDs. S&W is also more responsive than Glock, Springfield, and most others.
New model blues: Oh YEAH. I drove a first year Mack CH, and it was chock full of stoopid. I referred to my first year Focus as "the vowel problem" because it should have had 2 "u"s for all of the silly recalls and campaigns it had.

In over 24 years of LE and owning and carrying various firearms, I have only had two that needed to go back to the factory. One was a Ruger SP101 .357 3" model that the timing went on it after 6k rounds and the other was a new SR22 that the slide was wearing out abnormally. Ruger lived up to its reputation and fixed both at no cost. They did not have to cover the repair for the revolver but they did. I have several Taurus firearms that are 100% reliable with nary a stovepipe unlike my Glock 27 that has had two in 800 rounds. My point is mechanical devices can and will fail and not all companies make garbage. I would have bought the Shield and tried it out before making any hasty opinions based only on negative reviews. There are usually more positive reviews than negative coupled with the fact that the respective companies back their products.
I have a Shield 9 that I am very pleased with in spite of the negative press even that model initially received.

I have shot around 200 rounds of 147 gold dots and 115 wwb through my 9mm shield with zero problems. My buddy bought a solo last week and has had fte problems EVERY time he has shot it and the slide has cut his and two other peoples hands while shooting, maybe due to the dovetail design. We both shot the shield and solo recently and the shield was more accurate. The solol is pretty but my vote goes for the shield, which is also cheaper. Just my .02.
Some people have been having problems with the xds.I have over 900 rounds through mine it has been a great gun .Also have a 9 mm shield with no problems.I do understand why someone would want to wait.
