I just picked up a 30-30 yesterday and took a look at my "super extensive" Winchester rifle collection of four guns. Here's a 1963 Model 88 .284, a 1905 takedown 1892 44-40, a 1947 Model 94 flat band .32 Special, and my new 1955 30-30. I'm left handed so that's why all the levers.

I have a .32 WS but not a flat band. You have some very fine iron........

"Little" is a relative term. Nice stuff...I like the 88. Looks like a Weaver variable on it.

Wyatt, I am left handed myself and do love Winchesters and you have a fine collection. But, I dont see a flat band gun...may be my eyes or my PC. I DO see a long forearm gun but both 94 bands look the same.
Not being nitpicky as I do enjoy all of your posts.

A piece of data.......

The flat-band resides near the end of the barrel only. The fore-arm bands were the same even if the location was slightly different. Maybe Mr. Burp would indulge us with a photo showing such. Here are a few of mine, but no flat-band.

Here's the standard band on top and the flatband on the bottom. I've owned the .32 for over forty years but when comparing it with the 30-30 I noticed the front band was different. Then I recalled a gun term "flat band" and realized it applied to my gun. It was done for some reason for three or four years in the late forties only. And as mentioned, the forend got shorter in the early 50's sometime.
