About two years ago, one of the guys in our shop came in with his late uncle's Model 14 and asked if I was interested in it. He wanted $200 and it came with 200 rounds of .38 wadcutters and a nice leather shoulder holster from A. E. Nelson of Salem OR. Couldn't pass it up

The serial number on the frame matches the number on the bottom of the grip as does the number on the cylinder crane. The crane also has a letter K in the middle and the number 3 on the lower right corner (as you look at the s/n. The model is stamped as Mod 14 and the serial number is K397xxx

The only real sign of wear is on the muzzle and that's probably from the holster. No scratches or dings. It has the wide trigger and hammer. And it's much more accurate than I am!

Can anyone tell me the year it was made and if I scored a good deal??

Real nice score.

Just picked one of these up yesterday for $350 and was told it was a good deal. So I would say yours was a super deal. I dont know the age of yours but mine is 1975 and I believe yours is much older. Very nice purchase.

If you're having buyer's remorse I'll give you what you paid for it.... :D:D

1960.
The grips are worth more than half, if not what you paid for the whole thing.
I would give as much as $500 without complaining, maybe more.
Yes, you did good.

That is one nice shooting iron. That is one I have been looking for. I hope when I find one it will be in as good of shape as yours.
That was a good price. I probably will pay at least twice that for one.

Ya gotta love the 'ol K-38 Masterpiece! And you practically stole it no less!! Enjoy it cause they are sweet sixguns.:) Dale

Sounds like you bought the wadcutters and grips for that price and got the gun and holster free. Great gun and best price.

Gee George... it's a no brainer ! Is this your first gun? This is probably a once in a lifetime deal. I muffed my first acquisition of this type... Never forgot that... Be happy and move on to the next acquisition.

Not my first handgun by a long shot and it's my 5th revolver (all brand "R" ). But this is my first S&W. My cousin has a Model 19 and a nice shoulder holster and I always liked it and I had decided a few years ago to find something similar.

This particular deal just happened as I initially didn't even know my co-worker was selling it. I thought it was a "show 'n tell" deal until he said it was for sale. Apparently, the guy's uncle used it for a wintertime carry gun which explains the shoulder holster.

The first range outing was a total surprise in how accurate it was. First grouping was about 2.5" at 25 yards with the wadcutters. I have to work hard to do that with my Single Six!!
