My New 28-2 Highway Patrolman

Just picked up this M28-2 Highway Patrolman this evening. A friend at my church got it from his Aunt. His late uncle had been an LEO and apparently this was his service revolver. The finish is almost perfect, so perfect that I initially thought it was re-blued, but it looks original. It's got a trigger shoe I intend to remove, and the fake pearl stocks have to go for either some factory ones or maybe some custom stocks, we'll see. I actually kind of like the feel of the Tyler T-Grip. I never liked the looks, but they feel pretty good, I might leave them on. It was born in 1970 according to the serial number and is shown for comparison with my M27-2 that was born in 1980. I like the 4" guns, but now I need a 3 1/2" and 5" M27 to complete my set.
I want to thank my friend Roy (Toyman) for his advice as to value. I was pretty sure but he set my mind at ease.
So, how do you think I did for $400?

Nice catch! It would easily have been 550 in the Seattle area, not too many available around here, especiallly in that condition.

You may consider taking a trip to the range before you remove the trigger shoe. My HP has one and it's a nice feel.

That's about what I paid for mine when it was new in 1974. As always, I wish I had kept it.

I also agree with the trigger shoe. I really didn't like them until I shot a friends' Python 6-inch that was tuned like nothing I have fired 40+ years.

That's a nice looking HP. I saw 2 for sale at a show last week. First one was in very good condition with rubber grips, $490. Second one was not in as good of condition with blueing loss all over for $450, if I remember correctly.
You did good.

$400 is a fantastic deal on a 28-even better since you know its history.

If you like the T-grip, ditch the "pimp pearl" grips for a set of nice service stock panels form Ahrends, Altimont or Eagle. All three make stock type panels for the N frame. Ahrends retro combat stocks are very nice, and comfortable to shoot if you choose to ditch the Tyler T-grip-which will be easy to sell if you do..

That's about what I paid for mine when it was new in 1974.

I'm afraid your memory is failing because there's no way you could have paid anywhere near that for a Model 28 in 1974. At that time, the retail price for one, even when equipped with extra cost target grips, was less than $150.

I paid $475 out the door cash no box or papers Pachmeyers, no orig. grips. Shoots like a dream. You did well for that price.
