I know the guy I used doesn't show it in his colors/patterns but I'm sure it could be done as it is often used as a base on other patterns.

That's correct. I'm not sure of the exact name of the plastic, but it seems to be a lot like polymer.

I believe it is called "Delrin", at least on most of the 3rd generation S&W pistols.
