My new Performance Center 629-4 3" "mystery" gun (New gun added!)

I know this is an old thread but I believe this one could be of interest to some of you. I picked it up several years ago from a friend who was in the construction business when it crashed. It rode under the seat of his truck for protection and had no box with it when I got it. The SN starts with CBL and it is a -4. I have often wondered if it was a "Avenger" but never got around to getting a letter for it. Started looking at Smiths again and came across this thread. What do you guys think?

As Jim points out, yours could have been ported after it left the factory, or who knows - maybe they did another special... :)

It's easy to get a bit more info, call the factory (800-331-0852) and hit the option for Customer Service. Once you get a live person, ask them to look up the SKU/Product Code, just give them the serial number and they will give you the SKU/PC. See if it's the same as in the photo above, or maybe someone can find the info in the SCSW V4. This flyer is of an earlier gun (flash chromed hammer/trigger and old style cylinder release), but non-fluted and standard production as yours is.... but they normally ran additional (and later) runs of successful models....

Good luck, neat revolver...

Thanks for the info. I wil call tomorrow and see what they say. Sometimes forget how fascinating these things can be. Pretty much have the Smith fever again after several years and look forward to catching up.
Thanks again for the information

629-4 3 3/8" SPA Serial number

I just stumbled on this thread. I have been looking for information on my 629-4 3 3/8" Performance Center revolver since I bought it a couple of years ago. I had this gun Lettered and the information I was able to get was that it was manufactured on June 26, 1995 for RSR Wholesale Guns. It is 1 of 50 units, Serial Range SPA0001-SPA0050. The barrel length is 3 3/8 inches but the invoice has it listed as 4 inches. In my numerous searches I have never seen this gun before. I have seen a very similar gun gun with an unfluted cylinder. (Even Roy Jinks had trouble...., Post #8). The gun came with Packmyr grips but I added the Culina Black Walnut Combat Grips. I only have the gun. No box, paperwork or any tools.
