Hey everybody,
I wanted to post about my new gun. I just recently purchased a SD9 VE. I took it to the range last week for the first time and put 100 rounds through it. Overall I like it a lot. the trigger is gonna take some getting used to. I have not shot many revolvers so the longer and heavier pull will take some adjustments. I thought about getting a trigger spring kit for it. It seems there are 2 camps. Leave it stock or do what you need to do. I am not sure if I should just "get used to it" or change things a bit. It has affected my grouping for sure. I do not want to make any judgements quite yet as I have only been to the range once. This will be my EDC and Duty weapon for the security company I work for. Thoughts?
I a.so picked up 2holsters yesterday. An IWB for everyday carry and OWB. I bought them from a local company owned by a Deputy Sheriff. he had both of them done in less than 2 days. He was apologizing ahead of time as he has been really busy at work but would try to get them done soon. he does great work and can ship anywhere. Edges were nice and smooth and really good retention. My apologies if I am not supposed to promote people or companies. I just wanted to give him a shout out as he is local law enforcement. I can give his contact info if anybody wants it. The OWB was 55.00 and the IWB was 50.00
Back to the SD 9. I am curious to know if the trigger will loosen up some. My guess is it has to be 10# plus. It is also a long pull. Other than those 2 areas, I really like it and don't plan on getting rid of it. Would love to fine tune it but don't want to go changing things if all it needs is a few hundred rounds through it.
Amy comments appreciated. Will attempt to post air.

Irunfar, welcome to the forum and cangrats on your new SD9. I have noticed that the SD9 and 40 do not stay on the shelf very long here at my local gun shop here in NE Tennessee. I have had mine about 3 weeks or so and I really like it. I carry it 24-7 along with an Airweight 642 in my pants pocket. I have found out that the trigger is fine the way it came from S&W--about 8.5 pounds, pretty smooth and breaks right at the end of travel--I like it that way. Good luck and keep us posted.

Congrats on your new SD9VE!!! I just picked mine up last night from my LGS. I haven't been to the range with it yet, hopefully this weekend!! Again, congrats on your new SD9. :)

Congrats on the new SD9VE, I have a little over ~ 3000 rounds through mine in two years and the trigger does loosen up some and smooth out after going to the range a few times and dry firing with snap caps. The "left and down" hits on the target that I started with also moved much closer to the bulls eye as the amount of range time rises. Good Luck!

My sd9VE trigger improved a bit with use, but the best thing I did was to smooth, and then lube, the trigger bar where it rubs against the inside of the frame. Major improvement and I still have a stock weapon.

Regarding groupings, you bought a self defense weapon, not a match pistol. You can sill enjoy shooting it.

Irunfar,

In the same boat as you. Just bought a sd9ve two weeks ago and am considering making a trigger change. After some response from the guys on here I may wait until I have more than 500 rounds through it to see if it starts loosening up.

Will keep an eye out for this post to see what your results are as well.

Congrats

Congratulations on your new S&W SD9VE; they are great guns.

I liked mine so much I bought it a stable mate.

I strongly suggest you leave the trigger as is and continue practicing the basics with it.

It'll slick up with usage and you'll grow to like it.

Ok first let me thank everyone who replied to the thread.

The pull was pretty heavy but I noticed my grouping was terrible. Because of this, I was thinking trigger kit. After reading some of your comments, I think I am going to wait a little while and see if things improve. I will keep you posted.
