I just picked up my new to me nickle model 27-2, 8 3/8 bbl:D
It is just beautiful! Times and carries up properly, appears to have had little use, SN is N436581, can anyone say what year it was made? There are also other #s stamped on the yoke, a C11 and 548X7 ?? Anyone know the meaning or significance of these marks? This rev has Target Trigger and Hammer, black rear sight and nickle patridge. I really like the long tube, I have a 629-1 that was a 8 3/8, and I had a 6"Hunter bbl installed about 20 yrs ago, I'm waiting on frame inserts so I can re-install the longer bbl, should be a nice pair. I will give a range report prob next week end, depending on the weather. (photo is off my phone)

That's a beauty! I'd say 1977. Love the long tube as well, been looking for a nickle for months and missed one a while back. Other numbers are internal processing numbers basically.

One of mine in blue...

Congratulations on your 27-2! Both pictures are extremely nice looking revolvers.

Flint Ridge,
I do love the 27 in hi polish blue, but I'm afraid I wouldn't shoot it to not show wear. Before I had my 629, I had a nice 6 1/2 blued Mod 29, I hated getting the muzzle wear and cyl ring, that's why back in the day I went w/ stainless. Most all my handguns were stainless, autos, revolvers and a derringer. Within the past 5 years I have stated to go back to blued, and this is my first nickle. Stainless is nice, but it doesn't have that warmth that deep polish blue or nickle has, IMHO at least.

Agreed and that is why one remains unfired (pictured) and one to shoot. All my other Smiths are SS K & J frames - a lot friendlier to shoot/handle. But like yourself I had to get a blued one too. Nickle really has been calling me and you have a fabulous example there!

Chillaxen and Flint Ridge, thanks for the kudo's, I'll get better pics soon. It's a shame to keep that sharp blued 27 unfired, the quandary would keep me up at night

Beautiful specimen, especially with the pic from a cell phone. Some more photos would be apreciated by all. If it's already been shot I'd continue the tradition. Just keep its maintenance up and she'll look great for many more years if you don't pack it in a holster.

I used to hate nickel plated revolvers but now have three. The finish grows on you and really looks great with a set of dark grained grips like yours.

You have a keeper there and congrats!

Nice pics of some handsome revolvers! I do like the 8 3/8" bbl. My lust for these 27's started back in about 1983 when a buddy got a 3 1/2 nickle, while I loved the fine finish and detail, the short bbl left me kind of flat. The itch hit about a month ago to get a 27, gotta love the fine checkered top strap!, so I decided to hunt up the one I wanted, nickled, pinned, recessed, 8 3/8. I drove 8 hours to pick it up yesterday, worth every minute. Now lets see if my 6" 686 gets benched???
