Yep, I have a big soft spot in my heart for the venerable Model 27 and this makes my third one. I ran across this pistol while looking through GB. It is a pistol that was released in 1990 as part of the "12 Revolvers" collection that was supposed to be released in 500 sets. From what I gather, they only completed 230 or so sets and then sold the rest of them without the engraved picture and name of the engraving on each revolver. I know quite a few don't much care for"special models" like this, but that doesn't bother me if I can get a good pistol without some Yahoo running the price out of reach. :D Anyways, this particular revolver is numbered #34 or 500 and someone must have broke up the set. The store selling it didn't post many pics and the pics were not first class, but I could tell the pistol was in good shape. Long story short, I ended up paying a total of $735 for the pistol plus shipping. It came in at my FFL guy's place today and I picked it up tonight. And man, I am one happy camper too, as the pistol looks unfired and has one of the best lockups I've ever felt. And the single action trigger pull is surprisingly light for a pistol that is basically new; breaks like glass. The double action trigger is a bit heavy, but that probably will lighten up with use and I can always change out the rebound spring at a later date if I want. I just finished tearing it apart to clean it, oil the guts and Ren Wax it in preparation for some quality range time. The SCSW describes this revolver as having a 7" barrel, but I measured mine at 6 1/2" and have also seen posts here that another person who had an unadorned revolver of this pistol run that also had a 6 1/2" barrel. I guess the SCSW was wrong about the 7" barrel. Even though it is a 27-5, it has a recessed cylinder, which also has the long stop cuts in the cylinder like a 29 with the Endurance package and I think is pretty neat. I always like the recessed cylinders as I think the narrower gap between cylinder and recoil shield looks better. Now that all this is printed, it's time for some pics.

Here is how the pistol looks in it's stock config, with Magna stocks. I'm not a big fan of them shooting full house 357 rounds, but I also have a set of football targets that came off an old 29 I used to have that it will wear for actual shootin' time:

I figured I did pretty well on this purchase. I got a brand new 1990 vintage 27 with one of the best lockups I've ever felt for well less than the new 27's sell for, and mine doesn't have locks or MIM in it either.:D

Thank you. If it weren't so cold right now I would go to the outdoor range and give it a run today, but the temp is down in the low 40's and shooting there would give my old hands hell. I am curious to see how the narrower trigger feels as compared to the .400 wide trigger on my 27-2; I think it won't be a factor in shooting comfort with full power loads.

BTW, the pistol also came with the original box and unused tools still in the plastic bag and all documentation too. The Spec Ord # on the box indicates a pack date of Oct 25, 1990 on this pistol. The product code of this model is 100999.

:) I have nothing really to add other than congrats and 40's sound like short sleeve weather to me right now.:D

Enjoy and never mind my pity party. I stayed here in WI so I MUST love it...

That is a nice 29-5 you got there, pharmer! I see that it came with a presentation case too. My Outnumbered 27 just came with the 2 piece cardboard box, no presentation case.

Yeah, I'd probably die dealing with the low temps you all get up there. We are not acclimated to the low temps down here in south LA at all. It rarely gets below freezing here and we haven't had temps get to the teens since the early 90's. We do have a lot of humidity though, which makes what cold we do get feel worse.

I didn't get a box at all, paid $75 for the box (there is an instruction sheet for a 29-2 that probably was originally in it) and added the tools. Thought I had a long cleaning rod around here but a 6"er is all I found. Joe

I've only seen one of those in person, at a gun show about 3 years ago or so. It had been used too much for me to be interested enough to buy, and they wanted a lot more money for it than yours. But I don't remember that the cylinder was recessed, probably didn't look close enough. They had not made recessed cylinder for about 8 years before yours was made. I wonder it they found some old cylinders, or made new ones for that run?? Does anyone else have one with a recessed cylinder?

Well, it is virgin no more. :D I finally got to the indoor range today (nasty weather for outdoor shooting) and shot around 270 rounds through the pistol. It was dead on with 140 and 158 grain loads and shot low with 110 grain boomers. I knew the 110's would shoot low if it were sighted for the heavier bullets, so I didn't sweat that. And again, I had someone on the firing line ask if I were shooting a 500 Mag. These automatic guys, they just don't know what a high performance revolver sounds like nowadays. ;)

I did run into a slight problem though. The locking bolt pin is a little loose and was walking out of the hole in the underlug of the barrel, which ain't cool. It got looser when the barrel was hot too. Anyone have any suggestions as to lock that pin in place without having to send it back to the mothership? I was thinking of maybe using a little loctite on the pin and letting it dry, but I don't know if that will hold through the cold-hot cycles of shooting.
