Well finally got to shoot a few rounds today. The 4566TSW shoots great, manageable recoil, and no malfunctions. But...it shoots very low. Started out at 15 yards, but could detect how it was hitting well. Moved to 7 yards, and could tell it was hitting low. Tight groups, but so low I was aiming at top of target to hit bullseye. I was shooting the same way I shoot my 5906, and that was dead on. Was shooting factory Federal ammo too. I know I need to shoot it some more, but any tips/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I am not saying that it isn't your gun, but this might help.

I just picked up a non-rail PD trade in. Mine is about 2in. low at 15 yds with 230gr lead rn. I'm gonna try some 200s. Call S&W and ask about different height front sights......

I had a 4566 and I am not the best shot and to make things worse my range is only 25 yards. I too noticed mine shot low my 4043 shoots to point of aim so I could compare. Got rid of it but what a nice piece. Real stout.

Shooting low

I picked up a PD trade in also 4566 last month and first time out found I was shooting low also. Nice groups, but low. I have been regularly shooting my double stack 9mm's, and did so at the range that day. After a while I figured out that to start off with this gun, I needed to slow down, take a little more time to adjust my grip, think about all the little things you do as you pull the trigger, get used to the way the gun feels and recoils. As I slowed down the second time out, the shot groups came up noticeably to the POA. Still need to shoot more, and get used to it from the 9's, but it did start to improve. It does appear I just need more range time, so good excuse to go. I certainly agree it is a nice weapon.

Yeah, the 60 or so rounds I put throught it wasn't really enough to get accustomed to. My father-in-law shot it and experienced about the same amount of difference in POA vs POI. My brother-in-law who does a lot of shooting was a lot more accurate with it, and only noticed about an 1" in POA vs POI from 7 yards. I have on FBI Palm-swell grips--which feel real nice, and might swap to the straight backstraps in my next session, just to see if I notice a variance. Hate to second guess the gun, as I almost bought an M&P instead.

4566

The M & P9 is nice, that is the first one Auto I got after years with only a revolver and not a lot of practice with that. Then the more I read here, convinced me to go to other 1st/2nd/3rd gen S & W's including the 4566. But after being used to the double stack grips and the lighter recoil from the 9's, it is an adjustment. And thinking back to when I started with the M&P and then the others, it was not an overnight process to learn how a new weapon shoots and get the shots consistently in a reasonable target group.

I picked up one of the police trade in 4566's here last month. Mine is dead on POA=POI at 15 yards.

I've been shooting mostly my 185gr hand loads, but didn't see any appreciable change when I tested my carry load (230 gr).

Well I took the 4566TSW back out to put another 50 rounds through her this weekend. I changed my stance from weaver to a more squared off. Practiced with some snap caps for awhile, and tried to keep my focus on the front sight all the way through the shot. Here is a target that I just put one clip through at 10 yards.

Still hitting low, but not nearly as bad as the first time shooting, one of the 8 rounds just tore the bottom of the paper.

I also picked a 4566 trade in last month and noticed that i was shooting low. Shooting Winchester white box 230.
Next time to the range I will try slowing it down and see what happens.

This was Remington UMC 230gr FMJ. I am going to try from a stand on my next outing to see if it is entirely me. Thinking I just need to put some more ammo through it, to get used to the gun.

I'd start over with the basics if it were me. Put the gun on a rest, and shoot with a firm 2 handed grip. And go from there.

I recently replaced the sights on my 4566TSW, and when I took it to the range it shot a little left and very low. So, I wrote to the manufacturer of the sights who said it was most likely the shooter, me. I bought one of those laser bore sights that you drop in your chamber just like a cartridge. The dot was a little left of aim, but it was dead on for elevation. I did some dry fire practice before hitting the range again, and also worked on not over-tightening my wrist to compensate for recoil.

Slowing down and relaxing a bit, I started shooting in the black with some pretty good groups . . . still just a little left so I need to tap adjust the rear sight just a hair to the right. But the bottom line is that I was gripping too tightly as well as anticipating recoil (pre-ignition push) causing me to drop my shots just as I pulled the trigger.

I decided to give S&W a call yesterday and ask them if they offered an adjustable rear sight for my 4566TSW. A conversation which I thought would be a short yes or no, turn out quiet different. The representative I spoke with said that he believed Brownell's carried an adjustable sight for the gun, which was sufficient enough of an answer for me. Then he asked why I was looking to change from the factory sights, and I explained that I was hitting low with it. He said I should be getting the 4" groups at 25 yards. Which I explained I was hitting 2-3" low at 10 yards. Next thing he said astounded me. "Well that doesn't sound right, better send it to us, so we can check it out. What's your mailing address?" Their sending out a prepaid mailing label, and going to inspect it free of charge. Really blown away with their customer service.

Just received my 4566TSW back from S&W today. They replaced the front sight with a lower mount one, and even sent it back with a free magazine. Can't wait to try it out again.

Outstanding!!

Hopefully your upcoming range report will have all kinds of glowing things to say about the pistol. I don't see a picture of it anywhere though...hmmm...

Many continued blessings,
Scott

What kind of sight picture are you using?

My 4566's will shoot low if I use a traditional "lolly pop" sight picture. If I put the front sight over the ten ring, POA = POI. Regards 18DAI.
