My nickel 27-2 (5") is home and just wow .....

19-5 4"

I shoot mine sparingly because it is a K-frame and I've been warned of possible damage from too much shooting? I found that 158gr. rounds don't heat up the barrel as much as "self defense rounds". A '92, she's 99%. In safe for 20 years from sellers next of kin. Just another great S&W!!!!! ; )

Beautiful ! The 5 inch 27 is one of the finest revolvers I have ever had the pleasure to own and shoot. Hope you plan on putting a lot of rounds down range.

Enjoy,

I own large framed snubbies and have shot (and really liked) the long tubed 27's but gotta say the balance on this 5" is amazing. I'm now searching for a shooter grade that I can shoot the heck out of. [emoji41]

you should be able to shoot .38spl through it for the rest of your life and never wear it out.

The stretching and loosening and cracked forcing cones come in when the gun is fed a constant diet of .357, specifically, the 125gr and lighter bullets that are super fast loads.

I'm not advocating you beat on it, but if yuo feed it .38 and even regular 158gr .357's in any NORMAL amount, you'll probably never wear it out.

That's a nice model 27. How's the presentation case?

The case is just beautiful!

KalamazooKid, that is one sweet handgun. I haven't seen much high quality nickel in real life but the images I see on this forum are brilliant. And yours being a 5 inch Model 27....

Gorgeous really is the only word for it.

I've been lucky enough to own two 5 inch N-frame .357's but I'm down to one now. It's hard to own more than 3 of any given calibre on a general handgun license in Australia and I had to make room recently. I kept a beautiful mid 50's Pre-27.

Anyway, it makes me smile in sympathy to think of just how happy you must be now. As others have already mentioned, you'll find the 5 inch N-frame .357's are real sweet shooters. Congratulations and enjoy the new addition to your collection.

As an aside, if there isn't already a 5 inch N-frame .357 thread there should be.

KalamazooKid, seeing your post of your presentation box reminds me that I was stupid to not take pics of my presentation box before I left for work for 2 weeks. It was delivered the evening before I had to leave for Midland and I was kind of rushed, but did at least get a coat of Ren wax on it. Like you, the case for mine is also in great shape and the inside doesn't have any cracks or worn out spots at all. So basically all I did was put the Ren wax on it and put my new pistol in it and put it away before having to leave for work. The seller shipped the pistol and the box separately; I guess to minimize any damage to the box or pistol.

Again, you done real good with this purchase. I'm sure you will really fall in love with your 5" 27 when you go shoot it. I wouldn't trade mine even swap for a Python even, that's how much I love the way it handles. And it's a more robust design too as I personally saw a buddy of mine make a Python barrel rotate about a degree or two when we were playing pistol lumberjack shooting trees down! :D Man were our pistols hot when that tree dropped.

I've been waiting, not very patiently I might add, for about 10 excruciating days to get my hands on this. I wanted my first nickel gun to be special - 99% plus in my favorite caliber, 357 mag. This gun meets ALL expectations and then some. Vintage 1978, 3 T's, and in the wood presentation case. All are in perfect condition, factory test fired and that's it.

I must say that this is, without doubt, the finest piece of "equipment" that I've ever seen, I could not be happier. Some shots of the new addition .....

You got a real winner there!

Is it my imagination or have the grips been modified slightly for easier shell extraction? I have a gun that is 99%+ that had the grips modified. I never understood why a previous owner did it. With my gun, I don't think it was shot enough to realize a problem with the shells hitting the grips.
