My nickel 27-2 (5") is home and just wow .....

KzooKid, I am pretty sure I know exactly how you feel. I "stumbled" across my first 27 last year at a LGS and all the stars had lined up for it...nickel, S prefix, 95%+, and 5" (well, not ALL the stars as there was no box or fine case like yours!) and a reasonable price. Congratulations and enjoyment to you.
Jim

You got a real winner there!

Is it my imagination or have the grips been modified slightly for easier shell extraction? I have a gun that is 99%+ that had the grips modified. I never understood why a previous owner did it. With my gun, I don't think it was shot enough to realize a problem with the shells hitting the grips.

I believe all the target grips from that era had the football cut. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

Combat Magnum question.

It's called a relief cut, so the extractor won't gouge the stock. The later stocks had what is referred to as a speedloader cut out. Prior to those were the non-relieved stocks.

Am I correct about the Combat Magnums having the relief cut for speed loaders? Mine is a 19-5 (.357) with Goncalo Alves grips that are large and cover the front of the frame.

When looking at the close-up picture of the relief cut, I thought it looked like it had been enlarged some. It may just be the lighting and/or grain in the grips showing the illusion to my eyes.

Kalamazookid, have you had a chance to shoot it yet? I bet that will put a big smile on your face!

The case is just beautiful!
