My 627 Pro will be three in May - and it just solved it's identity crisis. It had borrowed a few front sights from it's 625JM sibling, before getting it's very own HiViz front sight. Same thing with grips - but it tried my 625MG's and 629's wood grips, too - even had it's own Ahrends retro targets. Borrowing it's 625JM sibling's Miculek grips - again - I found what I thought might be Nirvanna - it seemed so - an order to Brownell's for brushes - and another JM grip - the one most folks remove and hide off their 625JM upon arrival home. Wow!

My first 2 5/8" PC627 UDR will be a year old in April. It has never had 'the right grips'. It's original Eagle boot grips had a gap - fit my '96 vintage 625-6 MG - and nothing newer. Back to S&W with those grips - another new set - same fit issues. Skip ahead to October - I buy another PC627 UDR - same boot grip fit issues - sent the grip back. Oops - they sent me a pair that fit the gripframe - both UDR's & all my post 2000 N-frames - yippee! Well, a tad premature - that Eagle boot grip isn't a hand fit for me. Then I saw the threads here about PC Shop grips #41417 000 ~$49 - ordered a set. Below are the 627's with 'proper' shoes:

I am awaiting a second set of grips for my other UDR - should be here by the weekend. I don't know which I like best - the moonclips or the speedloaders - it's nice to have a choice. One thing is for sure - for my use, these grips are perfect. The no fg JM's are a fast and fidget-free grab, while the 627 UDR aims better with some fg support. Like I said, just right - for me.

Wow, I'm mostly impressed with the UDR. Nice pairing. The UDR definitely looks better with those grips, barely even looks like a snub anymore for some reason.

The eagle service grips are way too small and narrow for me. I put a set of combats on mine, it is how it should have come from the factory.

I've got those Miculek grips on my 625JM and they took a bit of getting used to. In addition to those grips my gun, at various times, wore Hogue rubbers, and coke reproductions. I never really got completely comfortable with the gun until settling on the Miculek grips. Now, they work fine for me and I have no intention of swapping them out again. There's something about the slipperiness of the wood and the absence of any defined edges to the grip that takes getting used to. At first, the gun tended to squirm around in my hands when I shot it. Now, after much experimentation, I seem to have found the sweet spot on the grips and the gun performs very well with them.

Hi Stainz.

I have followed your posts about the 4" 627 Pro, they were very helpful in pushing me over the edge and ordering one for myself. Same gun, the 4" 627 Pro.

Question about the HiVis front sight. What part # is that sight? I want to put one on mine when it comes in, and I did not know which one will work with the stock rear sight... the different sight heights listed on the HiVis website are for different barrel lenghts? I think?

Also, if you will, all my wheel guns wear wood grips. My Smiths have the Hogue Exotic wood monogrips, which look nice, and are comfortable but each one has had fitment issues. I like the look of those PC grips you listed. Will they fit/work on the 4" 627? I like the finger grooves and I won't mind the screw. I was going to put Ahrends Curved Butt Retro Combats on her, but I see in some pics the grip on the side opposite the cyl. release the top edge of the grip curves up and looks like it covers the S&W trademark partially... I am sort of anal about stuff like that and I know it will bug me every time I look at the gun.

**Edit (Ooops! I was looking at the pics on the Ahrends website, I looked at pics of the 627, and it looks like the S&W trademark "is" on the same side as the cyl. release. I guess the Ahrends would not cover it.) My bad.

Thanks for any advice!

The choice for my PC 627 UDR are these Ahrends Retro Combats. They fit my hand perfectly.

If you are ordering from S&W Accessories, they'll know which HiViz sights fit the 627 Pro (Same as the 625JM.). I'll have go through my receipts to find the ones I bought from Brownell's.

Here are the Ahrends retro targets on the PC627 UDR:

Here those grips are on my 627 Pro. The 5" h-l 686+ sports the HiViz and Ahrends square conversion fg grips it came with as the '04 'Stocking Dealer Exclusive'. The N-frame equivalents are the same size externally. All of my Ahrends are cocobolo wood.

The JM's do have a learning curve - and they are now my favorite grips for the 625JM and 627 Pro.

I just picked up from my FFL and shot my 627 UDR. The Eagles are to small for my hands. Since my hands are to big to clamp down, the checkering tears my thumb up by the web of my hand. I gotta find something a little larger.

Beautiful six-...er, eight-guns, all! I am EAGERLY awaiting the arrival of a set of cocobolo Ahrends Retro Targets for my 4-inch 627 Pro...I don't mind the black rubber Monogrip she came with, but I, too, prefer wood grips on larger wheelguns.
