The family grows again. Via GB I got this 66-3 2.5” with magnas. It’s very clean and lockup is crazy tight. It better be, cost about $850 plus fees. Also picked up a few T Grips from Robertsons Trading post for it and my 65-5 3”. Not thrilled with the fit, but for the price can’t complain too much. The 2 stainless models sure look good together…

And now I’m awaiting arrival of a 66-2 2.5” w/ Goodyears, also via GB. It wasn’t a particularly pretty ad, so w/ little competition I was able to snag it for ~$550 plus fees. Don’t need it, but at that price I had to take a swing.

I’ll update my family photo once the 66-2 is in (new 66-3 not pictured. Also missing is a 642).

When I bought my 2nd S&W, I was warned that this is addicting. I should have listened! My wallet will never forgive me

Ye your wallet will hate you. At one point I had a total of seven model 66's. Three 2 1/2 inch. two 3 inch and two 4". All P&R except the three inchers. Now I am down to four. And I consider myself a Colt guy.

I have an additive curse on me regarding buying & acquiring many (for me) firearms from S&W and other manufacturers. Those are some nice guns you have there! My daughter was at a local shop and fell in love with the pretty rose/gold-colored pistol! It was an EZ 380, exactly what I’ve been looking for since she wanted a semi automatic and doesn’t have the strength to rack the slides on anything I have here. I couldn’t wait to buy it; kinda like an addict’s fix! I’m going to pop its cork tomorrow. The nicest and most recent before that was a beautiful Model 57 bought from a Forum member. Another recent one was a AR15 couple weeks back. A cool semiautomatic 12 gauge shotgun a couple weeks back. For Christmas I bought 3 40-caliber pistols. One for me and two for gifts. They were police trade ins so good prices.
So, it’s not just buying S&Ws, it’s buying guns of all flavors! So, I’m done buying guns this year. So, this morning I’m looking here on Forum and see a couple threads on the new Heritage Roscoe. I don’t want another .38 spl. but I have to get one just for research purposes! I also see a revolver in the classified section that I think I need to make an offer on.
“Hi. My name is Jeff and I’m addicted to buying guns!”
“Hi, Jeff!”
Peace, ColumbusJBR!

That's a very clean looking looking 66-3, and I hope you hit it out of the park on your soon to arrive 66-2! Let us know how it turns out. My interests primarily focus on N frames from 1956 to 1965 but there is something about a model 66 that is very appealing. Maybe it's that "I'm all business" look? Here's mine, an 66-1.

That's a pretty one too! I of course want a pinned model as well, but not bad enough to justify the extra costs I was seeing. But as I've learned, never say never...

ColumbusJBR, your young Smith family is quite handsome. You'll be surprised at how fast they multiply when left alone in the safe. Slippery slope...

Update: I picked up my Model 66-2 today. No pic yet, it needs a bath and a grip swap, hopefully soon.

Took longer than thought to be able to pick it up from my FFL. The idiot seller on GB (individual, not a shop) just tossed it in a priority mailbox and sent it over to my FFL with zero paperwork  It took a hot minute to iron all that out; he was completely clueless and somewhat rude when I asked him to submit the required papers. He was oblivious that he committed a federal crime doing that. Shame on me for underestimating the stupidity of people.

Anyway, was able to get it for just $620 all-in and it seems to be in pretty good shape, so life is good.

Could anyone please verify the year of manufacture? Serial # is BNC1*** I'm hoping I get lucky and it's an '84 (my birth year)

Updated pic soon!

Wow, you’re correct. It is a -3. I didn’t even think to check it at pickup. I guess the seller didn’t even know what he was selling before he just tossed it in a box

Oh well, I bought it for the price, not the dash model. No way I’m gonna try to return it to this guy, it was enough headache getting it. Lesson learned to vet sketchy GB ads more thoroughly.

But hey! I got another S&W .357 regardless, for a good price. Not upset with that at all.

NEW family pic

Here's today's updated family pic after getting another 66-3 (Hogue grips). It's getting bad... Can't wait to find the next one!

From left to right (1st family pic): 36 no dash, 642, 66-3 2.5", 66-3 2.5", 65-5 3", 19-4 4", 686-6 Plus 6", 27-2 6", 29-2 6.5"

It's funny, you get one and it scratches the itch for a *little bit, but I'll be on the hunt again shortly I'm sure.

The "new" 66-3 w/ the Hogue's might find it's way on my hip shortly.

Very nice collection of revolvers JBR. I know what you mean about that pesky itch, it just doesn't go away does it? I just took possession of a 1963 29-2 and I'm already thinking about my next 44 magnum purchase. I have 5 screws and early 3 screws so I may try and ease that 4 screw 44 itch. Hey, that's a big part of what makes this hobby so fun, that next Smith & Wesson just over the horizon.

You picked some nice ones for your collection. Two things I found kinda help cure the itch. One is running out of room in the safe, the other is retiring!! I still like being on the hunt for those holes in my collection. Congrats on the new and future additions. :D
