My Shield is a paper weight - help needed

Rob I was thinking the same thing. A group buy :) If you do it I would be in for 1 maybe 2 for my 9mm Shield! For the price 2 is very doable ! :) so far do not need it but as the say better to have it and not need it then need it and not have it

+1 here...

Semi-autos are designed by engineers who are smarter than I am. They are designed to shoot loads that are within a certain range of power. Too light, and the pistol will not function. Too heavy, and the pistol batters itself to an early death. For that reason, I do not like changing recoil springs. Using only one of the two might work for a while, but eventually, slide velocity goes up, and the last rounds in the mag will simply not be up in the position to get picked up by the pick-up rail as the slide runs forward, and failures to feed will start.

If changing guide rods, use of a single spring requires that spring to have the same characteristics of compression rate, etc., as the factory unit. It is often not just the weight of the spring that contributes to 100% reliability.

Get an OEM part somewhere. They are cheap. Get two, just in case.

This place has them for $9 but there is a $50 minimum order.
Yeah... That's G&R Tactical, which we were discussing earlier in this thread (Replies 8-12, 18, 20 and 21). ;) :)

I went ahead and ordered 6. I have 2 set aside for Radco (if he still wants 2), 1 for me and 1 for Deadbug. That's 4 that are spoken for.

With S&H, it's coming out to $64 (basically, $10.66 each) to get them to me. I'm figuring $2-$3 for 1st Class postage to Radco and Deadbug and they're good with paying $12/RSA.

I'm not looking to make a profit... Just trying to help some members out, so hopefully this doesn't violate the 'Commerce' rules. If so, Mods, feel free to edit this next part out: :)

If there are 2 more members in NEED of a replacement, that just want 1 each and okay with $12 each via PayPal, PM me.

Oh yeah... I JUST ordered these yesterday and since they're coming UPS, I won't have them (in hand) for about a week (8/10-8/15) and 1st Class USPS will probably take ANOTHER week... So if you take me up on this, don't expect to see it until at LEAST 8/19-8/28 depending on when I get them) :)

[Update...] All RSAs from my order are spoken for. :)

I installed the

Smith and Wesson Shield Guide Rod - Stainless Steel Guide Rods

on Friday morning and put 250 White Box Winchesters down range by 11 am. Smooth, no issues, full battery, threw the brass 60 degrees at 3 feet out.

$25 by sending in the stock rod, whole thing took 4 days out and back.

"A bargain at twice the price".

I also posted the DPM Systems Technology Mechanical Recoil System. It is ready to go, but not yet on the website, $90, and looks like a lot of springs and moving parts.

The good news is that you've got choices, and different price points!

My M&P Shield had 300 Rounds thru it when my guide rod broke. The reason I bought this was S&W had long reputable history. They obviously know with all the videos and message traffic they have a potential image crushing problem. How can they be short this part? I am starting to regret not buying the Glock. I've had my Glock 23 for over 10 Years with thousands of round thru it without one hiccup.

Gotta vent, I'm starting to feel like a real dumb@zz. This M&P Series is target for military and police and it breaks during the first 300 Rounds using standard American Eagle target ammo. This is unacceptable. I really should have bought a Glock. I don't think I will be recommending any S&W products. How can I, aren't we betting our lives on their performance. If I can't trust I won't EDC it.

Been calling about my replacement RSA every 2 weeks. last week was 10 weeks and still "on backorder". This makes the second of four new S&W products in the last two years that spent more time broken than working for the first five months of ownership. They have worn me down and now I just consider it "normal" for this hobby. Wound up getting a Sig P938 for EDC to take its place while I am waiting.

If I can`t use it, I don`t need it.

My Shield 9 has been out of service since May 5th.
1st I had issues with the front sight that took 5 weeks to resolve.
I`m still not convinced it was not the Shield fault instead of Trijicon that warrantied and repaired the tritium sight.
Then the RSA came apart in mid June.
Over six weeks and 4 calls to S&W`s customer service with 4 promises of a new RSA being sent.
I have not received anything except phony excuses, from my mail address got mixed up to, we don`t know why you have not received one to, it`s on back order and we have no control over our vendors...Really? If that`s so, why not?
Near every excuse except the truth that, they have released a defective product and they don`t intend to stand by it.
When I finally get my RSA, the Shield 9 goes to pawn and my money will go for a reliable product that, I can carry with confidence...never again a S&W product after only my 1st one.

This is a real shame. As I've mentioned I waited a couple of months for my replacement RSA and now it sounds like it's taking even longer. I'm tempted to fib and call and ask for another replacement now so that if mine breaks I won't be out of commission for months...I would love to try and get an honest conversation with CS going about these RSAs. Get them out of the canned responses and really communicate to them that S&W has a problem.

After I read Rob's post, I went ahead and ordered 6 of the Shield 9/40 RSA's on Monday. They should be here tomorrow. I will offer the same deal - $12 each shipped. I will have 5 for sale (keeping one for myself). Please PM me if you are interested so we don't clutter up the board.

UPDATE: ALL RSA's spoken for. Thanks...

I have one RSA left for sale.
Man! You got yours fast!
My batch isn't due until tomorrow.
Please post an update of if they hold up...
Hopefully this batch fair better than swsig's OEM replacement that he got Monday.

This thread is making me question if should consider getting a shield.

Why? Cause c you read a few problems? Show me a gun where you didn't read one problem, not one! Also show me where you read people posting that nothing about their gun broke today?! Fact is only people with problems post

Pick an item, any item, made by anyone on Earth, and I'll be damned somebody complained about something about that product. Except of course Glock, they only make "perfection", that happens to be on Generation 4
