Stainless S & W lubrication..........

I have been shooting stainless S & W's since the 70's, tuning them too. I used a gunsmith Chip McCormick product that was a graphited grease which has been discontinued. Currently I'm using an old tube of Gunslick which is basically the same thing and has been around for years. I apply a thin coat to the internals after doing an action tune, it makes a big difference in how smooth the action feels.

I'll play along, but I only have a few stainless steel revolvers (most of my modest collection is vintage blued or nickel revolvers). I'll include my 642-2 (partially SS) just for grins. I also have a SS Model SW1911, and I recently traded away an original SS S&W M&P .45 (melonite? coated), but they're outside the perview of this Post. Enjoy!

Every few years a new Super Lube will be introduced that will reduce trigger pulls and put an impenetrable barrier on your gun. But I’ve always just used plain old 3 in 1 oil.

The great thing about stainless is, if you have some common sense and an ink eraser, your stainless shooter will always look almost new.

I also use 3 in1 oil..........Lots of "snake oil" products out there.

I have two fully stainless S&W's, a 617, and a 60 (which Narragansett sold me a few years ago), and a partially stainless 637. They get Hoppes when they are really dirty, and CLP for normal cleaning and lube. Also two stainless top/alloy frame Gen 3's, a 3913 and a 6906. Both get cleaned with the Hoppes/CLP routine and a tiny touch of white gun grease on the rails to finish.

Four stainless Rugers, a 10-22, a GP100 44spl, a Single-Ten, and an Old Army BP. They get cleaned with what they need (soapy hot water for the Old Army), and finish lubed with CLP.

All 14 of my S&W revolvers are stainless but our son has a four-inch Model 19 with all the options - RR/WO sights and the "Three Ts." We use FP-10 synthetic gun oil and Renaissance Wax on them.

I'm curious about that 52-2. SCSW 5 doesn't mention a stainless variant, and states that no factory nickel were made. Might yours be an after-market plate?

I also like these newest rubber grips that have come with the stainless S&W's. They feel good in the hand and are very functional. They look decent but not sexy.

Most of my revolvers are stainless also. They get carried and used, none are safe queens or collectibles.

My son and I have between us several stainless Smiths. A model 63 has Herrett shooting star grips; the 986 and 686 have Culina grips which do a great job spreading the recoil making rubbers not needed; and two 500 magnums which still have the rubbers because we shoot mostly heavy bear loads out of them. We use Hoppe's for cleaning. Personally I still prefer blue steel.
