I have a model 28 that was bought in 1975,,Shot only 158gr, SWC for fear of wearing out the barrel with jacketed ammo..After about 2000 rounds I decided I needed the performance of jhp to by pass the leading problems with the swc,,,Then I was issued all the remington 125 gr.JHP ammo I could shoot(FOR FREE)..So I figured I would shoot it and just buy a new barrel for the gun after wearing mine out with all that jacketed shooting..Well after over 5000 rounds of 125 gr. JHP that model 28 barrel ....still looked like new!,,,I also noticed some flame cutting back when I was shooting the SWC ammo,,Being young and dumb I was worried about it,,Was told by an old timer to not to worry about it...(That is when I switched to JHP)..Looking at the top strap today after reading this thread,,,And the top strap doesn't look any different today after running probably more than 10,000 rounds of 125gr. JHP through it than it did back in 1975 after shooting the SWC in it..My advice is Don't worry about flame cutting in any steel frame guns..I don't have much experience with aluminum frame guns to give advice on.
