My old Timex Expedition just died, again.

I've replaced the battery a coupla times already and it's dead again. I think this time, I'll get a replacement watch.
I got it back when I worked in warehouses and factories. It was a good bang around watch.
It's starting to show it's age.

I have a Garmin gps watch. It's rechargeable and it'll last about a week per charge. If I use the gps, it lasts just about a day.
I figure I can use that until I get a replacement for the Timex. It's a bit too chunky for an everyday watch.

Since I don't work in factories and warehouses anymore.
I'm thinkin' of getting a Seiko 5 Sports Watch.

It's an old fashioned analog watch. Self winding, no battery, shock resistant and water resistant to 100 meters.
Since I don't need a bang around watch anymore, I figure I'll get something a bit nicer.
I've got it at the top of my Amazon.com list and if anyone asks me what I want for Christmas, I'll know where to direct them.

Watches are obsolete unless you consider them a decoration.

With a cell phone in your pocket why do you need a time piece on your wrist.

Anyone read newspapers anymore?

It's a lot easier to glance at my wrist than it is to pull out the cell...and a lot more discreet if you are talking to someone....and yes, I do read newspapers. It's hard to do the crossword on a tablet.

I had good luck with Seiko Quartz watches for years. My last Pro Diver lasted me 25 years, but I spent a lot on repairs and maintenance over the years. About two years ago it needed a full rebuild and I said no more. Spent $25 at Academy and have been happy with my little Casio. If something happens to it, I'll toss it and get another. Keeps perfect time too.

forget the new watch and buy a cell phone, a lot more useful and you can keep up with the forum when you take a break. watches are like hulu hoops = went out of style and usage years ago. You still drive a VW beetle?
I've never been in style, why start now?
I'd like to have a VW Beetle. No computer control, the only electronics are in the radio.
Just simple transportation.

My watches never need batteries, I just wind them up. I own a bunch of watches, and none are battery powered. Most days I wear a '60s vintage Benrus, or a early '90s Hamilton wrist watch. If I have to take something out of my pocket to check the time it'll be one of my pocket watches. I'm giving myself a 1901 Waltham 7 jewel hunter case for Christmas.

Yes, I am a dinosaur. Heck, I still carry a revolver for work too.

By the way, I hear good things about those Seiko's. Classic style, automatic, everything you need in a good every day watch.

The Seiko 5 is a great choice for a mechanical auto-winder that won't cost you your life savings. The 7S26 movement is very robust, it's the same one that's used in a number of their very tough dive watches. I have more than a couple of the Seiko auto-winders, only one which has been worn a LOT shows any signs of needing a COA (clean, oil, & adjust for you non-watchmakers) after 10 years.

If I totally ruin or lose one, I won't cry too much, not like it was a Rolex, Omega, or one of my vintage Heuers.

These are maybe 8 years old. I like choices :)

I have a 90 year old Elgin pocket watch that I wear when I go out. I use a Citizen Ecodrive watch every day at work. I read the newspaper every morning with breakfast. I prefer a good old fashion book to reading from a tablet or computer.
