In the mornings my wife and I set at the dinning room table and have our coffee .. Nothing much different this morning till ..

Now my wife isn't a gun person but is an old farm girl .. she shoots quite well but has carpal tunnel and it hurts her too much to shoot very often .. So she doesn't own or want to own a pistol of her own .. Though she does shoot mine occasionally !! and knows where the loaded pistols are in the house ..

As she was pouring herself a 2nd cup this morning she matter of factly stopped and said " I shot a man this morning ..

Choking on my mouthful of coffee that I spewed all over my newspaper and my lap .. I said in a gasp and about half a shout - " WHAT !!! "

She took the pot back to the stove and as she returned she said yes I was dreaming that I was in the bathroom and heard someone breaking the glass on the front door and told them to stop I was calling the police .. when they reached in and opened the door and walked in I shot them till they stopped .. I asked her if they were armed and she said he had a big knife .. I asked her where she was standing at and told me she had backed up into the kitchen as he forced his way in before she shot the first round and he was about 10 feet into the house .. I told him I was armed to get out but when he took a step toward me I shot him 3 times and then called 911 ..

She was actually shaking a bit telling me this dream of hers that was so very real to her .. she was surprised the way she reacted .. but I really wasn't .. we had gone over what she should do when and how if a situation like that would arise .. even to the point of acting them out ..

I was very happy with the way she reacted in her dream .. she did everything necessary to protect herself !!

She wants to go shoot this week !!

Be watchful......dreams have a way of warning us of impending events. Ramp up your's and her's situational awareness and get her to the range. I am not saying dreams come true but the way you described how your wife told the story and reacted to the dream sent chills down my spine......just be on your gaurd as we should be at all times.

Years ago, my wife sits up in the middle of the night and yells, "I want my shot gun!" She'd had a similar bad dream, with similar reactions and similar results!

You often wonder if they are paying attention, or just humoring you.

carpal tunnel surgery

There is an operation to fix that carpal tunnel problem...my wife had it done on left wrist a few months ago...will be getting right wrist done in a few weeks...your wife may want to check it out as my wife's Doctor said it will just get worse without surgery...

By the way my wife is an excellent revolver shooter with her S&W Model 36 Ladysmith!

I would say that dreams don't mean anything, except for one I had years ago about killing a deer. When I got to the club that morning, I knew just what stand I was going to draw. When that number came out of the hat, I wasn't at all surprised.

Then from the time the dogs jumped, until the deer hit the ground, it was like watching a rerun. Very strange. I have no explanation. Logically....

Stay alert.

Dreams are our brain's way of working and thinking things out thats not always at the front of our thoughts. She could have seen or heard something a few days ago, even from a show or movie or news.

I have a reoccurring nightmare that happens several times a year. I work on the boarder of Pa and NJ, in Pa. Sometimes I have to go to NJ for something work related. When I do I leave my carry gun at work.... I take it apart and hide it in different places. I also make sure there's nothing in my car that would be illegal in NJ. This dream is always the same. It starts with the fact that I somehow went to NJ with my carry gun. I don't know how or why or why I'm even there but I'm trying to leave and all the crossings have checkpoints and searches. I keep trying to find a way and sometimes I'm stopped by a police officer who asks if I'm lost. Of course I'm nervous because I have a gun. I always wake up before anything happens and for a second or two I can't tell if this happened earlier today and I'm worried about the consequences or if it was just a dream.

It's always that same dream. The only changes are how I try to get around the checkpoints. Sometimes I walk, sometimes drive around, sometimes I look for tunnels or sewer covers. Probably happens 3-6 times a year

Whitwabit,

Some things to consider from someone who has has bi-lateral carpal tunnel surgery. Has your wife been diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome, or just assuming that is what she has? The reason I ask is carpal tunnel syndrome evinces itself as numbness, not pain. I know many others who have had it and none has ever mentioned pain as a symptom!

Carpal tunnel syndrome is a result of the area of the carpal tunnel through the wrist tightening up as you age, which puts pressure on the medial nerve. This actually reduces the rate of conductance through the medial nerve. It is progressive and if left long enough can result in total loss of sensation in the hand! Don't let it go if this is what it actually is.

Find a hand surgeon. Many general practitioners cannot diagnose carpal tunnel adequately, and if they haven't experienced it personally don't really understand it. Carpal tunnel surgery has advanced unbelievably since my two surgeries. It is an outpatient procedure and doesn't require casting or bracing for weeks post surgery as it used to.

I agree!

I wholeheartedly agree! I wouldn't be too concerned about the dreams... you can't do anything about them...but she can do something about the carpal tunnel!

Unfortunately, NJ would be happy to hear how fearful they make law abiding gun owners.

I live near the NJ border too, and cross over for work and family visits. It's a big PITA

My wife got carpal tunnel problems from too much counted cross stitch.
She had minor surgery both times and it was corrected with little pain. Her finger would lock up in a bent position. An orthopedic surgeon did hers.

The carpal tunnel operation takes about 15 minutes. Has allowed me to shoot, write, type, work a mouse, etc. without pain

Thanks for those offering advice for carpal tunnel .. my wife has had the operations and she is one of the few it didn't relieve the pain ..

She doesn't use a computer .. maybe 1 time a month so a mouse is also not the problem ..

A friend told us in Elk camp one year that he dreamed he shot a bull so large he couldn't turn it over. No matter what he did he couldn't move it. In the morning his wife asked what the matter was with him last night. " You kept grabbing my leg and flipping it over".
