N frame carry

Have carried three N frames during the past 30 years concealed, a model 58 despurred, and a 4" 29/despurred & more recently a LH M-24 RB....I can carry these guns IWB with a polo shirt or button up shirt with shirt tails out and not be noticed.....when the weather cools off as it has now....I wear fleece jackets or hoodies, carry OWB with a good pancake and all is well. Not petite either - 6'1" 250 lbs.

What advantage is gained from packing an N frame?
Well I would say accuracy, range penetration and power are the assets.
The old N frames served the Highway Patrols of out nation well in the past. In three and a half up to six inches im many calibers. Mostly .357 I think.
They were favored for use against barriers and what the 158 grain .357 would and could do. If in a situation where you are not able to take a long gun along I would opt to pack a 4 inch N since it would do its job at a greater range than most semi autos out there. Not that extended range defense use is very common but it could happen in a rural setting or even in urban America. Thoughts of the Texas Tower sniper come to mind. The officers had 38s and shotguns and the assign was pretty well out of range. Civilians grabbed the deer guns from their trucks and pinned the sniper down and saved some lives. A model 27 would have been handy or even a 29.
I like my Glock too but sometimes it won't serve the task at hand. Well maybe a 10mm could but I don't even know anyone carrying one today. I traded mine many years back. There were no concealment holsters available for it then. If they were it was a secrete.
If my wife ever packs her 4 inch nickle M 58 I will post it here. I will be giving it to her on her 41st birthday next April.

I haven't carried it outside home yet.
Just got the Simply Rugged Cumberland yesterday, I think it will work better than I thought. Rob dose great work.
The grips are Executioner aka Grasshorns which replaced the Ajax "ivory"

The 4 inch would pack as easy but concealing target grips will take a coat for sure.
I did carry a 4 inch 28-2 back in 1975 it was not easy my other option was a .36 High Standard Griswold and Gunnison which I did carry before I was 21.

I have a 28-2 Highway Patrolman with in 4" . I have never concealed carried it. I love the way the gun shoots and spend more range time with it that any of the others. I like to have it in the truck as a second gun, but carry a Shield. Living in Florida there are not many times I am wearing a sweater or jacket. More often wearing shorts and a t-shirt year round. Khaki's and a golf shirt to work. The Shield fits in my right pocket inside a DeSantis holster.

Here is my 657 3" .41 magnum in a Milt Sparks PMK...carries nicely just behind the hip.

I have that same holster for a 2.5" Colt Diamondback. It's the only thing I carry OWB, and I love it, but I usually do IWB.

Here's my 5" 627 V Comp in a Simply Rugged that was actually made for my 5 1/2" Redhawk, but works/fits just fine with the S&W too. I've carried the Redhawk A Plenty in this holster, and the S&W just disappears when the T shirt gets untucked. Hardly even know it's there. I have a number of Rob's holsters, and they all work fantastic for me. When I'm visiting the LGS and some customer is talking about how they need something small and light so they can conceal and carry it, they have me show them my carry rig. Dropped jaws are the norm. (I'm a fairly average size guy, not big and burly at all)

For me the key is a holster that pulls the grips in tight to the body, which the SR's do VERY well. After that, the rest is a breeze.

I also carry this nasty 3" 629




I also use this 2.625" 627 when in the mood.

Conceals well but I don't carry it often.























I most often carry a 1911 in a similar holster.

S&W Model 22 45ACP in a Mernickle Performance Series holster. My Mtn Revo. and my 625 PC 4" reside in this gun when they go out and about whether town or country.
I'm 5'8" and weign 200lbs, gun covers nicely with a midlength jacket or a square tailed shirt like a guyabara or Hawaiian.

I open carry my 329PD daily in a Safarland 587 (I think that's the number) paddle holster. The only time I don't carry is when I'm in the house relaxing or doing something dirty; like mixing and pouring 17 bags of concrete for my concrete shooting bench as I did yesterday.

The only time I carry concealed is when it's cold outside and I have a heavy jacket on.

I like the photos roundgunner. If the gun doesn't get 'em, you can hit 'em with the hammer...then tie 'em up with the tape measure. Very nice guns.

I have a first year issue Highway Patrolman, but it isn't a carry gun for me. I wimped out and bought a tiny little 681 L frame.

An N- frame mountain gun is 38 oz. easy on the hip or your choice of shoulder holster.

Quite often, especially this time of year, I can be found carrying either my 625-2 or my 27-2, both 5 inch guns, in a Simply Rugged Sourdough. I don't find the weight or the size to generally be a problem. For the record, I'm 6'3 and about 240 pounds.

I mostly quit carrying the 6.5 inch 29-4, because of the extra barrel length.

I bought a paddle holster and carried my N frame 28-2 4" the other day. Even with a gun belt it wasn't comfortable. With that noted, anything carried at 3-4 o clock seems to borrow my hip. I've shot the gun several times now and it is a sweet shooter. I either need to get a field rig or a shoulder holster.

I currently have a 627-0 for sale right now that would probably be the biggest "N" frame I would carry (5 1/2 inch). But I routinely carry a CA Bulldog 44 (spl) and I have others about like that (size) that I easily could. It's just comforting.

I CARRIED BOTH OF THESE 629s, TOGETHER, ON SPECIAL OCCASIONS IN MY YOUNGER DAYS. THE 8 3/8" VERSION RODE IN A SHOULDER HOLSTER, THE 3" RODE IN A WEAK HAND CROSSDRAW. THE WEIGHT DIFFERENCE WAS ONLY EQUIVALENT TO 5 3/8" OF BARREL, SIDE TO SIDE. A STAG HANDLED FIXED BLADE BELT KNIFE CANCELLED THIS OUT. WEIGHT WAS NOT A PROBLEM. THIS WAS COVERED BY AN OILSKIN DUSTER, OUTER GARMENT……
