I was trying to find out why my Mod. 25 had quite a hitch in the last few thousands of movement while single action cocking. I removed the grips, loosened the mainspring screw, and removed the side plate. Without the sideplate on the action was smooth as a babys bottom. Strange I thought! put the hammer block back on and side plate and back to having a hitch in cocking. Removed the side plate and I could find nothing amiss. Replaced the side plate and using a small flashlight, looked in the hammer recess and lo and behold the hammer block tab is bent to the rear and seems to be catching on the cylinder bar inside the action. I again removed the side plate and twisted the hammer block to be across the action, actually had to twist it four or five times to get the tab to move! Now I can see that the hammer block seems to be too short! It doesn't even reach the hammer and frame interface. Now the question, are some of the hammer blocks different lengths? I am wondering if this one might be for a K frame? Anyone know how long the N frame ones should be? I got this one used and a bit abused, so it would not surprise me if this is the wrong part. The toolman.
