N frame iwb holster

Thanks to all who have responded. some good working info here.

Most of the pics i have seen so far carry the gun just a bit too high for my taste.

Was hoping for pics of a holster that sat down in the pants more, with less of the grip out. and more forward cant..

the search continues...

The purpose of IWB is to eliminate the need to conceal that portion of the gun that resides below the waistband.
I disagree, there are several objectives of the IWB carry, not just one purpose. You ignore easy-on/easy-off, the ability to move the holster to other locations without taking off belt (such as moving from hip to crossdraw when driving), closer fit to body than allowed with belt holster, etc. If the only benefit was the one you mention then IWB carry would not be as popular as it is .

Well, I suppose there are different strokes for different folks. The IWB holsters that I use (Sparks SSII, Galco, etc) do not allow you to slide the firearm around on the belt while in use. Unless you are using a clip-on, than you can't reposition location easily. I have used both a clip-on and conventional IWB holsters. For me, there is no comparison regarding comfort, concealment, and retention. The clip-on just didn't cut it.

There are many OWB designs (paddle holsters, snap loops) that allow easy on/off and some repositioning without disrobing. As far as fit, I agree that most IWB's really put the gun tight to your body, but a well designed belt holster can do the same (if the maker so chooses).

I don't think there is anything inherently wrong with wearing and IWB as an OWB, I would just prefer to use a good OWB if I were going that route. As always, quality and fit makes a large difference in comfort and concealment. It’s not like you are wearing your underwear on the outside of your pants ;).

I'm not aware of any IWB that you can just slide around your belt to reposition, seems that your belt loops would prevent that whether your holster was clip or snap loops. You are correct that the clip allows easy relocation, which is why I am a big fan of those. In any event, to each his own, here's some of mine...

http://www.miltsparks.com/Summer_Spec.htm Longuner, here is a pic of a Sparks Summer Special. I like the SSII because it sits a bit lower at the waist.

If you wear a clip IWB inside your pants, then you might be able to slide it around, since the loops are not preventing you from doing that. If you wear it OWB, obviously the loops preclude sliding it around.

The Summer Special's loop around your belt, so the holster cannot come out on the draw, no matter how hard you tug. I used a nylon clip holster for a while, but I abandoned it once I picked up the Sparks Summer Special II. Both were easy on/off, but the nylon job squirmed around a bit much for my liking. I never bought a quality clip holster. I do like IWB's on/off convenience, which is why I am also partial to paddle holsters.

That's a nice looking holster. I would not recommend any clip holster made of nylon or similar material. I have tried them, and they do not function nearly as well as leather w/steel clip. One significant problem is most of them will not stay open to reholster the weapon. Don Hume makes excellent IWB leather holsters with very strong steel clips, and they are not expensive at all.

I have been using Galco Summer Comfort IWB holsters for several months now. I use them for 2,2.5,3, and 4 inch N frame revolvers, and one for a 3 inch L frame.

Price is about $60 or so, and they are available. I am too old for green bananas, let lone waiting 6 months for a holster. :)

I picked up a holster years ago that I still have somewhere for an N frame IWB. it is a "fobus" type holster. It keeps the cylinder above the belt line so no need for bigger pants. Can be used with any barrel length. I keep it around in case I need it. Used it for my 28 when it was the only gun I had. When all guns must go this one will never leave. I bought it cheap and fixed it up. Put around $400 into it and believe it worth every penny. Almost sold it once but quickly got my wits back. It has an additional number on it like a PD would used. Thought TX DPS might have issued it but when I contacted them they said no. One day I'll get a letter on it and maybe try to trace it's background.

I have a matching pair of Kramer - IWB and OWB in mahogany horse for 3" N-frame (Ahrends boot grips) and a dump pouch - I find them entirely satisfactory - the color often said to be an issue with horse is first rate the stitching is good enough. The shorter N frame get to be top heavy with the cylinder above the belt - which I think is almost necessary to get the pistol back and tight to the body in the hollow of the back. The choice is bulky with the cylinder behind the belt though with enough cant to put the grip vertical I suppose it would be minimized. There is no Utopia.

thanks everyone,

i have ordered a tucker heritage IWB for my 29 will see how that works, may be what i was lookin for, i hope.

Sorry, don't currently have any pics while worn. Here is a Lobo for a 4" N frame.

Here is a Milt Sparks Summer Special for my M21-4 TR. It rides fairly low.

And I just today got a new Fist IWB for my 325NG, but no pic yet.

Roundgunners pic shows how well IWB hides stuff. A good gunbelt is a must, and then you just have to find the so called "sweet spot" - the place to put the holster & gun where it is most comfortable for you.

I saw it referenced here last year and was intriqued due to the high ride design, which keeps the cylinder above the beltline, but the price tag has keep me away - so someone didn't like it, huh?

I posted a couple photo’s on page 2 I think, but didn’t have any with the new 3” Lobo or the 2” Sparks

I also like the JIT holster, especially if the IWB has been on all day, some times ya just don’t want it right next to ya anymore!

This is with the 3” 629. With the 2” 625 it does not go past the bottom.

Bought a Hoffners' and it was au unworkable rig as all the weight of the weapon was above the belt and only the bbl on a Mtn Gun below the belt.

It shifted all the time and the grip kept printing. I'm a retired cop and wore a handgun daily for 30+ years. Best out there for my bucks is the Sparks Versa Max. The wait is fairly long but the product is worth it.

Been wearin Sparks leather since 1973.
