Name that snake..

A couple yrs ago, had a black snake in my work shop in SW Va. I only saw bits and pieces of him as he always laid behind all my junk on the work bench. Trouble was, he stayed right beside the light switch ! I wrestled with killing him or not, but figured he was keeping down the mouse population in the shop, so let him be. But I HATED to turn on that light.

Here's one you'll want to stay away from. They are pretty much common where we are at 3,000 feet. He was a good sized one. Six feet, pretty much as big as a Diamondback will get.

Hissed like a mad cat at me instead of rattling.

That is what hoe’s and shot shells are made for!!

Around here, we would just call it a “black snake”. Here is a cousin to that one. This one was in my driveway the other day.
I like having them around.

Same here, just call it a Black Snake. Have a couple in the yard, not a big deal. Except for the day my big male Siamese came down the hallway pulling one by it's tail. Wife and Grandson screamed like girls and scared the cat. He let the snake go to see what they were screaming at, the snake went under the door to the linen closet. Wife called S-I-L (a Deputy) to get it, I was at work at the hospital. He called Animal Control. The guy from Animal Control showed up and asked where it was and was told the linen closet. The cat was guarding the door! Animal Control said "you know they climb?". he opened the door and sure enough it was on the top shelf. He put it in the field across the street, and the next day we saw it in the yard. Wife was not a happy camper and all the linen in the closet was rewashed as the snake was "probably on it!".

posted this one before. My grandson told me he heard a snake while we were in a ground blind deer hunting last year. After telling him you can't HEAR a snake, he pointed him out about 10 ft away. canebrake timber rattler that still had a full grown squirrel inside. We don't get many rattlers around here.

The black racers around here will pick their heads up really high, that’s how I know what it is. They aren’t very friendly either.
