Naming Contest is on

Y'know, what if this really gets out of hand and starts going way, w-a-a-a-y-y back?:D

If I remember, the Picts were conquered by the Celts, who enslaved them. Then the Celts were conquered by the Romans, who enslaved them. Then came the Anglo-Saxons, then the Danes, everybody being killed, captured, or enslaved by the conquering group. Then finally came the Normans who took over the whole mess.

I wonder if we're gonna start hearing from some of the descendants of the Picts or the Celts demanding reparation.:p

I've never really understood why US military bases were named after Confederates. Seems a bit odd to me. Yeah, I know most of them served in the US military before secession, but still.

I think I'm okay with them changing the names if that's what they decide to do.

And before you ask, yes, I'm a native Texan and VERY conservative.

I'm not OK with it at all. In fact, I'm pissed!
The men these bases are named after were some of the greatest military leaders in history. They deserve recognition and an honorable place in history. In most cases these bases are located in states these men were either from or where they served.
I am a proud veteran who served for almost two years at FT. Hood, Texas from 1972-74. I don't want nobody messing with that!
I've already sent scathing e-mails to all three of my Congress critters. I strongly suggest others here do the same.

Mount Rushmore will be on the list. Maybe not in My lifetime, but They will find a way.
Would not surprise me but they’ve already been after this one! They can’t touch this because to my understanding is that it’s private property!

" America's original sin" ????????

It's been decades but I don't recall the folks in Va. saying "Let's sail over to Africa and get us some slaves!"

More like Portuguese traders (The Pope split the World between Spain and Portugal in the early 16th century) "I've got some slaves here from a hot place who can work the sugarcane fields of the Spanish Main..... later to work in the tobacco and cotton fields of the South.

Arab "traders/slavers" raided and enslaved ...... then sold their slaves in the markets of Zanzibar as early as the 7th Century ........ later in the 16th Century we got the western Slave, Ivory and Gold Coast trade.

Just don't rewrite History.

There has been a lot of it lately.

Portugal traded slaves, yes. But was not alone in it.

One of the wisest things done during Reconstruction was the naming of southern US military bases after Southern leaders. This was an act of reconciliation. Look at some of the post-war veteran gatherings that included both former Federals and Confederates. These were times of healing when former adversaries joined each other in remembering their shared experience and the loss of their companions in battle.

Reconstruction, in many ways, was a total mess, but not on this point.

You do not heal the errors of the past by erasing them. Today's Marxist, anarchist forces don't give a tinkers damn about slavery, or even BLM, their goal is the abolition of American history. R.E. Lee today, George Washington tomorrow, and eventually A. Lincoln. Don't be fooled.

I didn't think it would be this fast: CNN's Angela Rye says Washington, Jefferson statues "need to come down" | Disrn

This is nothing less than a full scale assault on America. Don't be fooled.

You can buy an LGBT flag on Amazon.

You can buy a marijuana flag on Amazon.

You can buy a gay rainbow flag on Amazon.

You can buy a Chinese flag on Amazon.

You can buy a Russian flag on Amazon.

You can buy a Che Guevara flag on Amazon.

You cannot buy a Confederate flag on Amazon.

It makes no sense.
I heard there is also a blue lives murder shirt available [emoji2959]

I grew up watching American made movies and TV shows, always wanting to live the U.S. because I loved what I saw. Then, 30 something years later I'm here and it hurts my heart. I can't even find the words for it...

These people are either incredibly stupid or just plain ignorant.

Makes me angry!

Love this song. But didn't follow instructions when I went to San Fransisco, I didn't had flowers in my hair.

I'm afraid this America is gone for good... our enemies want to make it a 3rd world country and then rule it. Again, it breaks my heart, but if they want to find out the hard way what patriotic Americans are willing to endure,.... then let's find out!

I sincerely hope you’re right but there certainly has been no shortage of destruction of private property recently.

They are both ignorant and stupid. I have no kids of my own to worry about. Part of me wants them to succeed just to watch them get what they ask for but the other part makes me just as angry as you when I think about guys like you that came here believing in the good side of this country and then finding this.

I think in the end cooler heads will prevail but this is pretty messed up this go round.

If in 1939 a US General Officer had resigned his commission and gone to fight for Germany would we name a base for him?

One of these things is not like another. Lee, Jackson, Hill, Pickett, etc. didn't leave their native land, they fought for what they believed the United States should be. At the end of the war, former Confederate combatants re-gained US citizenship. That would not, in a billion, billion years, be the case with your example.

While the comparison with a US soldier going to fight for Germany is indeed apples and oranges, the second part of your statement is not historically correct either.

No Confederate fought for the United States in any shape any more; the South’s supreme and only real war aim was US recognition of its independence as a separate country.

A Federal officer from the South breaking his oath to the US Constitution is in a different category than someone fighting for an enemy country like Germany because for those officers, loyalty to their individual states superceded loyalty to the Union.

Whether that reasoning was morally justified is obviously subject to debate.

I stand by my statement that "they fought for what they believed the United States should be". They did not fight for the Union as it had become, but rather for the union that they believed should be. They felt that they were the true inheritors of the legacy left by Jefferson, Washington, et al.

I suggest we re-name everything for a Native American that's currently named after any White man in honor of my Native American ancestors...Everything including cities, states, forts, etc. including the United States of America... How about the United states of Geronimo? Red Cloud? Sitting Bull? Cochise?
Sarcasm of course but no more ridiculous than what the leftist stooges currently want.

We already have Punxsutawney, PA. Comes from the Lenni Lenape meaning "land of sandflies."
