Hoping they step up their vetting process of these international trainees. Condolences to the families....except his.

Thanks for the info......

They haven't been forthcoming about ANYTHING except, "The Shooter is dead." Wonder why they were keeping quiet on this one.:(

Thank goodness the police were there.......and ARMED!

Don't forget the one that drove through security gate. And hit a base security vehicle and killed a petty officer.Three attacks in a week. That was at Little Creek Va .

I don't see any conspiracy to "keep quiet" about this, no cover up. Details of a shooting like this...especially one that takes place on a military base...will never be immediately released, no matter what's known or not known. Any details that might be released have to be cleared to make sure they don't violate or disclose base security practices. Plus, details about something like this are always sketchy, even hours after the event takes place. And since the shooter was a Saudi national, there may have had to be a bit of diplomatic tip-toeing in any press releases.

Now this is something I'd wonder about if I wanted to spend a lot of time thinking about this. The shooter was reportedly killed by an Escambia County sheriff's deputy. And two other sheriff's deputies were there and were wounded.

My question would be...why were they there? Were they called to the scene, or were they already in place. And why wasn't the problem handled by base security personnel instead of civilian law enforcement? Why would someone call the cops when there are supposed to be trained military security people already there?

Military personnel aren't allowed to be armed when on base, except for security forces. But three sheriff's deputies were there, and armed. And what would their jurisdiction be on a U.S. military station?

Being it was a Saudi it could be a sticky wicket for sure.

Many of the personnel in the Saudi military are sons of high ranking military. That in turn means that they have connections to the rulers of the country.

At least that was was was told to me by a younger Saudi that came here (Albany NY Area) for his education and the opportunity to drink and party hearty here.

He was very heavily involved with a local girl, treated her well and gave her good gifts. jewels and a brand new Camaro. Told her right from the beginning no way could he marry her or take her back with him when his time over here was done. He was the son of a well placed General. Last I heard of him he was a colonel in the air force and doing very well.

The base commander at Kirtland AFB allows current and retired law enforcement officers to carry on base if they maintain their LEOSA qualification. Perhaps the same is true there.

Six total detained. Looks like a can of worms.

Can we a have a source for a credibility check, please.

Official: Base shooter watched shooting videos before attack

"PENSACOLA, Fla. (AP) — The Saudi student who fatally shot three people at a U.S. naval base in Florida hosted a dinner party earlier in the week where he and three others watched videos of mass shootings, a U.S. official told The Associated Press on Saturday.

One of the three students who attended the dinner party videotaped outside the building while the shooting was taking place at Naval Air Station Pensacola on Friday, said the U.S. official, who spoke on condition of anonymity after being briefed by federal authorities. Two other Saudi students watched from a car, the official said."

Thank you.

It's heartbreaking that this American Hero didn't make it. Although critically wounded, he passed on vital information to save the lives of his comrads. He deserves a medal.

.

OBL was son of the "building contractor to the King", of Saudi Arabia.
Got the contract for work on Mecca and all other high islamic sites.

No surprise, there.

Mutual aid, per a standing memorandum of agreement,
between base & county. Likely with an established
"concurrent jurisdiction" agreement, to allow Florida
LE to hold peace officer powers on an (otherwise)
exclusive Federal jurisdiction. Next! :)

We have NO friends in the Middle East - no exceptions.

This is something that we, as Americans, fail to understand and seem to forget on a regular basis. Some folks cling to the mistaken idea of " political correctness" which is the mistaken belief that it is possible to pick up a cow pile by the clean end. Sometimes I feel this country has learned nothing since 1975. I believe it was Winston Churchill that stated something to the effect that " nothing focuses the mind quite like being shot at". If you have been there, then you know what I speak of. Time for another B&B.

Latest news reports suggest the affair is being treated as an act of terrorism. Was discussing the situation with a friend who is a retired USAF Colonel. He thinks it is very strange that the Saudi shooter had apparently been undergoing flight training at Pensacola since sometime in 2017. Normally a pilot in training would not have been there for anything close to that long a time.

Another report said the shooter used a Glock which he had bought locally and legally. I wonder how that came to happen?

The firearm purchase was apparently legal because of a loophole for people with hunting licenses.

The stranger part to me is that a Saudi flying a plane, intent on terrorism, choose to use a handgun instead of the plane, like his countrymen did on 9/11.

I don't understand

How can a non-citizen purchase a firearm even if they can purchase a hunting license.....makes no sense.....that he would meet these requirements per the ATF FAQs......

May a nonimmigrant alien who has been admitted to the United States under a nonimmigrant visa possess a firearm or ammunition in the United States?

An alien admitted to the United States under a nonimmigrant visa is prohibited from shipping, transporting, receiving, or possessing a firearm or ammunition unless the alien falls within one of the exceptions provided in 18 U.S.C. 922(y)(2), such as: a valid hunting license or permit, admitted for lawful hunting or sporting purposes, certain official representatives of a foreign government, or a foreign law enforcement officer of a friendly foreign government entering the United States on official law enforcement business.

Yeah, I don't know. I'm just passing on what I just heard on the eleven o'clock news tonight here in Florida.
As for it making sense, ehem, this is Florida we're talking about here.

Been there, done that. It's how I first owned a firearm in the US before my green card and then citizenship. Yes, it had me baffled too, but a very nice man at BATFE HQ said it was all kosher. Most odd is that you are not restricted to a weapon legal for hunting in your state of residence. You can get anything you want. My first was a Baby Desert Eagle in 9mm.
