Any idea date of manufacture? First or second USN contract? Shipped to? Thanks

For what it's worth, V80387 (USN marked) shipped in August of 1942.

Without a letter, it could have been shipped anywhere....Norfolk, San Diego, Oakland, etc...The S&W letter would tell you when and where it was shipped.

Also, once the Navy gets it, there is really no way of knowing where it went once they obtained it.

Probably to any of several naval supply depots. There is no way to find where it was sent after that. It could have gone to many different ships or shore locations during its service period. Some of these old revolvers even found their way to Vietnam in the 1960s-70s. A letter will not tell you anything of great interest.

Even as late as desert storm (1990-1991) some victories were being issued for combat use. The heavy use of air power meant a lot of air crews, and there are several pictures of mostly reserve component air crews carrying victories
