What type of aircraft does a Navy pilot fly,who has one wing on his pilots wings?
Baloon Pilot is correct--only met one during my Navy careet
How did the term blimp come about?
Limp airframe is correct, U.S. Navy was still using the classification system when I was in--Class A= rigid airframe--class B=limp airframe
What is a binnacle?
Housing for the ships compass is correct
What is a Lubbers line?
Line on the ships compass that indicates the current bearing is correct
What type of Navy ship was not designed to float? (hint: it's not the U.S.S. Neversail.)
This one was sort of ambigious, I should have asked what type of ship was not designed to float on water---- The U.S.S. Macon and the U.S.S. Akron would be a clue---The ZW class of airships were designated as United States Ships--and I'm not sure of the ZP and other classes.
The U.S.S. Neversail was the name of the mock up of a ship used to train sailors in boot camp on how to move about a Navy ship, which ladders to use during emergencies, identify frame numbers etc.
Congratulations and thanks to all who participated.

1. I don't know -- Navy SEALs maybe?
2. Named for the rotund comic strip character Blimpy.
3. The housing of the ship's compass.
4. The line on the ship's compass indicating the current bearing.
5. Submarine seems too easy; diving bell perhaps?

Bonus Question: what is the DRT, where is it located, and what does it do?

DRT (Dead Reckoning Tracer) - the NC2 plotter, in Combat, right behind the Sonar shack, on a pre-FRAM 378.

A lovely piece of complicated electro-mechanical genius.

Dirigible Pilot
The sound it makes when you thump it
Where the ship's steering compass lives
Fixed line on the binnacle indicating 000° relative or dead ahead
the R/P FLIP, Flip ship

Cheers
Bill

Blimp is a British term. In WW I they had an airship called a Type B, limp (no rigid airframe like a Zeppelin has).

Another trivia question: Where did Count Zeppelin first see lighter than air aircraft?
