I finally realize that not all the guns that I want will be chambered in 22LR, 308 Win and 7.62 x 54. I will apparently have to start also stockpiling 5.56./223 and 30-06. What else am I still missing with those chamberings? I am looking to do moderate hunting, collect a few milsurps and an EBR. Thanks for your suggestions, recomendations and abuse. Rick

I don't know. What do you want to do?

.30-30 is a handy chambering for a hunting gun. Then there is 7.62x39mm if you want to start playing around with AKs.

Beyond that, there's "medium bore" and "big bore" depending on your needs. A .375 H&H is a potent medium bore. If you want to get an elephant gun -everyone needs one - then .416 Rigby or larger (.600 Overkill is interesting) might be useful to have.

Sir, depending on your choice of "sport utility rifle," you might consider 5.45 or 7.62x39.

Regarding milsurp bolt-actions, about the only deals now are 8 mm Mausers and Mosin-Nagants. Surplus ammo has largely dried up for most others, so even if you find a gun for cheap, you're stuck with expensive commercial ammo.

You might add .22-250 for long-range varminting and/or .45-70 for big stuff up close.

I personally wouldn't bother with elephant cartridges unless I were actually planning an African safari.

Otherwise, it sounds like you've got things pretty well covered.

Hope this helps, and Semper Fi.

You could think about laying in some .30/06. You might come across a nice Garand, 1903 Springfield, of 1917 Enfield some day. If not, there are plenty of modern guns to shoot it.

If you want a big bore, I agree that you may want to look at the .45-70 and I agree that the .30-30 is another good one. I thought that if you were from Texas that you had to have a .30-30......

You cannot achieve happiness in life without a
32-20 or 30-30.

The 30-30 is a fixall.
