I'm in the process of a horse trade for a 686-no dash, 4 inch barrel with original grips. If I swap for this revolver should I send it back to S&W for the firing pin bushing upgrade or not? Thanks in advance!

I actually just acquired pretty much the same revolver and sent it back to S&W for the recall. I investigated and found that there is really no reason not to send it back. It won't cost you anything.

I have a 686 no dash, never sent it back and never had a problem shooting 357's or 38.

I bought a 686 the first year they came out. Shot Rem ammo for 6 mo, then bought some Federal .357, which locked the revolver when the primer flowed back into the firing pin hole.
Dealer sent it back to S&W for the firing pin and bushing upgrade, which solved the problem forever.

steve...just an observation...be sure it has not already been back....if you have an M stamp on the crane, the update has already been done...congrats on your find

This 686 has not been back for the modification yet. Since it will cost nothing, I'll more than likely send it back to have the modification done.

Thanks guys!

Steve

Regarding stamping an M on the crane (or anywhere else), I sent my no dash 586 to S&W for this repair and it was not stamped.
