My last post ozoned, so I need to re-ask this. I found a 5" .38 Special K frame SN#1374xx in a pawn shop. It's been refinished [a VERY nice job by the way] so it's collector's value is gone. What is it's value as a shooter? Very tight with a good bore.

Well, I put it on layaway today for $250. I looked at it again and have a question, what kind of markings did S&W put under the grips when the factory refinished a gun? It's bluing is SO nice, I wonder that it might be a factory job. Also they have a very good looking 41 in there for $700 if anyone needs one. I'm in a little town between Marion and Carbondale, Mike.

The SCSW book puts that SN in the range of 1906-1909.

Factory refinish marks under the grips... there's a few possibilities:

5 point star
3 or 4 digit date stamp of month/year
diamond with a letter B or S (blued/standard)
