I need to find a good gunsmith in SW Ohio- Dayton/Middletown/Cincinnati area if possible. I know the best way to find a good one is to get recommendations from satisfied customers on this forum!
I've been lucky, as I've only needed very minimal smithing services over the last several decades. But, this one will need a little more skill. Here's the situation: Years ago, I bought a 'Hungarian Hi-Power' from Century Arms International. (FEG, P9R - DA version of a HP) Other than a rather 'crunchy' trigger pull, it's actually quite a decent and reliable pistol. But, as I was cleaning it one time, I noticed a crack starting on the lug under the barrel, just ahead of the feed ramp. I was able to obtain a replacement barrel, but the gun and barrel have sat in the safe for years. (Can't remember who I bought the barrel from- somebody that bought out all of the FEG parts when a major supplier went bankrupt.) Here's the problem: I'm sure the barrel is the correct one, and the gun reassembles okay, but it is very difficult to work the slide. (I won't even try to fire it until it's fixed.) My guess is, it's one of those "minor fitting may be required" situations. So, I need a good smith that won't grind too much off to make the fitting!
Any help is greatly appreciated.
