So I'm trying to build an inventory sheet for my collection. I need to know what would be the exact wording for this revolver. Is it a 1905 M&P? or what is it? 3rd change, etc.
5 screw, 5 inch barrel, 38 Special, Ser # 406875 it has been marked on the grip frame as
Police Dept.St. Louis.MO.No.146
I really want to thank all of you who have helped me get this collection in order.

The collector books will call it a Model 1905 Fourth Change. The last patent date on the barrel is December 29, 1914 (the "4th change")

But S&W never advertised it that way. It was simply the .38 Military & Police model according to the AMC and the box label. Yours is from the early 1920s, after about mid-year 1922.

Thank You so Much! While my collection will never live up to some of the collectors here, I feel mine won't be the smallest either. Here's a couple of pictures of what you folks have helped me create. Most of my guns are pre-lock, although I do own a few of the "modern guns."
Again I can't Thank you folks enough!

I think you may need to change your user name to "Revolver Veteran", at least. Nice collection! :)

I would if I had half the knowledge you folks do. Honestly I just have a thing for S&W revolvers. None are probably considered rare, and most won't win any beauty contests, but I enjoy getting a new one and getting it out to the range. My wife allows this addiction and says it's better than being addicted to drugs…
Now that I live in a free state I admit I might go overboard, but there's nothing better than firing an old revolver and wondering what that gun has seen in its lifetime.
Again thank you all, and I appreciate the kind words.

Whoa, your collection is nothing to sneeze at from what I can tell! Not only do you have quite a few revolvers, but I also see a few mahogany presentation cases.:D I'd like to know what you are using to hold the revolvers to the wall board. Isn't a free state awesome! I don't know how long you have lived there, but I sure would like to have a gun room like yours.

The board is a product called Tactial Walls. Much like my collection I started with 2, a couple of revolver hangers, and a 4 rifle hanger. As my collection grew so did the number of walls. I had to get a little creative as the revolver hanger that they sell won't work with a full underlug gun like the 686 586 etc. I had to modify each one with a drill. J frames were also a problem, but I found their flashlight hanger and again a drill, and I made them to work.
Currently I've had to make the corner as I've been enjoying the AR platform. Shooting 450 Bushmaster out of the AR platform has been a blast. Next I'm getting an AK just because I don't have one and were basically llleagal where I lived previously.

That looks excellent...."chills..literal chills".

Very cool display...I wish I had a walk-in gun room like yours where I could just display everything worry-free......Ben

Funny part about it was when the realtor was showing us houses, my wife told me to buy this house. It had her dream kitchen. Little did she know I had plans for the safe room. Sometimes life gives you the lemonade already done.

WOW

wowser!!! that is quite the set up you've got going there Sir. i'm one of the green guys too. would love to have a gunroom 1/4 that size. awesome thanks for sharing. also i'm an orphan looking for a new family. just saying. kenny. :o

RR: Most of us will never live up to some of the collectors and their collections on this Forum...but now we'll have trouble living up to you, too! That's a super collection you have there. Like you, I don't collect a particular type of S&W revolver or have a bunch of rare or engraved guns, but I do enjoy accumulating them (mostly N-frames). Those tactical walls are great- my son uses those in his gun stores and they're very adaptable. I wish I had the space in my house for a "gun safe room", but I'll have to settle for a couple of gun safes with Versatile Rack's Vr4s and Vr6s and Gun Safe Solutions' handgun hangers to hold my revolvers. You've obviously suffering from the S&W addiction, and I'm afraid that there is no known cure...enjoy!
