I thought it might be roughly in that time frame as well but the last patent date on the top of the barrel is either 1914 or 1917 I think

The Reg Police was introduced in 1917. So it's a 1st year of production gun. The cartridge is 38 S&W, not 38 S&W Special. Four inch barrel, square grip with rebated backstrap, built on the 'I' frame. Does that sound like your gun?

Yes thats the gun... they also made the regulation police in a .32 cartridge. Mine is .38 S&W. with the serial # 110X... I would think that would put the DOB in 1918 or early 1919
I think you will find that your four-digit .38 RP was first month's production and probably shipped in May or June of 1917. It wouldn't be 1918 production because the factory was basically given over to turning out the US Army Model of 1917 from late 1917 through very early 1919.
Out of curiosity, does your gun have its original stocks? And do they have the patent stamp June 5, 1917 on the bottom of the left panel? Some of the earliest RPs do not have the patent stamp because they were produced before the patent was granted.

Yours had to be 38 becuase the 32 was in the 6 figure serial numbers by 1917 in a different serial # range of the 32 Hand Ejectors. I'd also love to see a photo.

I am 95% sure the grips are original... they do have the patent date stamped on the bottom... I will get a picture up ASAP.

You can be 100% sure the stocks are original by removing the right stock and looking for the gun serial # penciled on it.
