serial number K 280792
That's a post-WWII K-38 Combat Masterpiece. Without looking up the serial number, I'd say it's from the mid 1950's (after '55).
Those are obviously not the original grips and it shows a fair amount of wear, but it's a fine gun and should be an excellent shooter.
EDIT: Ok, I looked it up in the SCSW. It should date to 1956.

The holster wear leads me to believe it was a LEO or security guard gun. Prices vary by region, so guesstimating value is a no win proposition.
Assuming it's in time and mechanically sound, it would probably bring around $350-$375 here in Michigan.

A little added commentary on your K-38. I also noticed a lot of wear and tear on the gun, may well have been used for many years in law enforcement. The missing stocks negatively affect the value and would cost $75 to $100 to replace, but will not carry the gun's serial number. Condition and not having original stocks would make the gun unattractive to collectors.
The last edition of Standard Catalog of S&W lists the Combat Masterpiece (with factory stocks) as worth $300 in Good condition ad $450 in Very Good condition. Typically, a post-WWII revolver would have to be 85% remaining finish to be Very Good and 75% in order to be Good so you can assess your remaining finish and come up with a reasonable price if ready to sell.
