Need Help identifying, Please

I recently acquired this S&W Top Break and cannot find much info on it. I know its old, but that's it.... It has a 5 number serial number which is 630** . no markings to identify caliber. My guess is 32 or 38 cal. Top of barrel says Smith & Wesson with like 6 or 7 pat dates... Not sure if this is all info needed to identify this but I hope so.. Would like to know how old it is and if it has any value. thank you

Welcome to the Forum. You have a 38 Safety, 3rd Model revolver that would have shipped from the factory most likely in 1891. It is in excellen condition and is classified as an antique by the BATF. The major ammunition companies still manufacture 38 S&W ammunition for this caliber.

As for value, I would say that the most current pricing trends at the online auctions average $450 for a high condition and can certainly go higher if the right bidders are interested.

I also just noticed there is a lone 2 stamped on it on the flat spot where the cylinder would rest when it is closed. Does this number pertain to anything.

No, that's just a fitters mark, stamped during the assembly. Ed.
