I bought a box of parts guns & trying to make a good one out of the mess. 38 Saftey Hammerless, had a broken main spring & all gunked up. Not a part in the gun would move, just all froze up. After a thourough cleanig & new main spring-it almost works! Hammer does not rebound to put the gun in position to fire the next shot. I press on the main spring & it will allow the sear to engage. My question is, maybe wrong Main spring? or, need a longer strain screw? or-does the firing pin spring have anything to do with rebounding the hammer? May need a stronger firing pin spring? Any & all help is appreciated, Jim.

Same problem, no answers

My 4th model arrived with a bubba'd mainspring--a cut down spring from some other model with a shim stuffed into the spring notch on the floor of the butt. Replaced the spring (thankyou Numrich's) but the hammer/firing pin don't rebound properly; the trigger won't pull until I push the firing pin back manually.

The front end of the firing pin is suspiciously sharp edged, I suspect more dubious DIYing. But, I cant get at the rebound mechanism.

Much of the gun is held together with pins through the frame. Most of these can be pushed out with the end of a toothpick with no problem. However, the bigger pin on the front edge of the grip frame won't budge.

Is there anyway to skip through Chicoine's instruction to examine the firing pin spring and rebound? Does anyone know what faults are typical causes for this failure?

Thanks all.
