Inherited a chrome plated polished S&W 10-7 revolver.
Cannot load shells, extractor preventing loading. Extractor holes are not permitting shells to enter the chamber.
Extractor removed, and shells load easily.
What do I need to do to fix.

That's a rather odd problem as you describe it.
Is there any visual evidence that the extractor isn't properly aligned with the cylinder charger holes?
Can you post pictures?
Have you tried different brands or types of ammo?

Two different brands 38sp ammo will not fit.
I guess the next question is where do I get it checked out?
Located in S.E. Florida.

Take a look at this thread, then look closely in the chambers of your revolver and see if you have simunition safety rings inserted in them to prevent chambering live rounds.

The chamber restrictors seems plausible.
But, he said rounds will chamber with the ejector star removed.

That's what's curious.
Misfitted ejector?
Said the revolver is chrome plated,
Plating build up?

Based on OPs description is it possible his revolver has had the extractor replaced with one from a .32 caliber K-frame. A photo of the rear of the cylinder with extractor installed will quickly settle this as the radius of the cuts in the extractor and charge holes will be obviously different.

If above is correct the extractor needs to be opened to match the charge holes, or a correct .38 caliber extractor fit. I would strongly recommend to the OP that he return the gun to S&W for a new extractor. A 10-7 shouldn't be an issue with the factory. For OP, the phone number for S&W Customer Service is 800-331-0852.

Following your suggestion, I dropped the cylinder, looked at it from the opposite end, and could see parts of the extractor in the charge holes. Easy enough when you have black on chrome.
Would ordering another extractor for the 10-7 solve this issue, or must they be custom fitted?

Are you trying to load .38 S&W and not .38 Special? Different rounds. The .38 S&W case is a slightly larger diameter case.

Make sure you use 38 s&w special and not 38 s&w .

Given where you are, I would consider reaching out to member "BMCM". He is retired USCG Master Chief and a machinist by training who has become a gunsmith. He is located in Mississippi and I doubt it is more than a day's drive to his shop. I have had him do a few things; the work was well done and reasonably priced.

Any reputable gun shop local to you can check it out for you right at the counter. They won't let YOU load it, but they will.

A decent gun shop would do it for free in order to gain your business.

Pics would help you in this case too.
