Great rifle and a bargain at under $1000. Yes, it's a real pre-war Super Grade with the cloverleaf tang. The wood figure is fabulous!
The stock appears original, but it was cut and the recoil pad added. I never heard of Ershon pads, but Mershon pads were common and the predecessor to Pachmayr. They also made grip adaptors! The stock was also notched for the Lyman receiver sight base. Hopefully, the seller has the slide insert for it. I suspect the wood was also refinished, but very nicely done. The forearm cap, grip cap, checkering pattern, Super Grade inletted swivel bases and front sight hood are right as rain. The SG swivels alone are worth about $150.
Yes, the receiver was drilled. Fortunately, it was done for Weaver bases. You can easily upgrade the rings to Warne Leupold or Burris. The scope looks like a German made Weatherby Imperial, which is probably worth another couple hundred bucks. It's appears to be a straight 4X, but I'm not sure.
If I came across that rifle for under $1000, I buy it on then spot! Even if the barrel was shot out or bulged (I suspect it's fine), you could part the rifle out and still be ahead.
FYI - Featherweight barrels didn't have this land at the rear dovetail. That appears to be a Winchester blank, which are hard to find these days.
... and the gun does have a pre-war safety and a cloverleaf tang:
