Need help with Smith & Wesson M&P15-22 Flash hider/supressor removal

Perfect! An area specific to the Smith & Wesson M&P 15-22. I really need help ASAP from anyone!

I have a Smith & Wesson M&P 15-22 that came with the flash hider/supressor at the end of the threaded barrel. I want to be able to remove my barrel and tighten the nut but the plastic end cap on the hand guard rail cannot slide off the barrel without the flash hider removed. This has been stopping me from removing the barrel and I want to get back into action with my M&P15-22. Any of you have this problem before? And if so, how did you handle it? Thank you. I am also looking to see if possibly a gunsmith in the Portland/Gresham area (in Oregon) can help me with this. However, I would prefer any advice from you S&W forum members. I have posted threads about this in my local firearm forum and even on a different Smith & Wesson forum. Though i've been asking for some time, noone has been able to help me. If anyone here can provide any info on how to remove it, I would gladly appreciate it!

Flash hider just comes off with wrench on the flats at bottom of the hider. Use barrel vise jaws to be safe. Lots of threads already here on both issues, just search them out.

I honestly did search and I could not find a specific answer. Do you remember if it is clockwise or counter-clockwise? Thanks

You need to clamp the barrel in barrel blocks in a vice. The receiver is plastic and you may twist the barrel out of the receiver otherwise.

You may be able to to this with rubber faced vice jaws in a vice. It's not necessary to gorilla-torque the compensator back on. 15 lb-ft is all that's required.

Put a wrench on it and give the wrench a sharp whack or two with a hammer and it should break loose. Just don't try to torque or muscle it off because you will twist the barrel inside the receiver.

Thank you all. I did my best last night and tried all of the above suggestions but it still would not budge. I think i'm going to have to take it to a gunsmith.

Is it new or used? Maybe if its used the last person put too much macho on it or loctite.

If the muzzle is facing you and the wrench is facing up, the top of the wrench goes (counter-clockwise) to the left.
If you get down to Springfield, let me know and I will remove the stuff for you.

Thanks Tacticool22! I definitely tried that but had no success. I bought it brand new and have used it only 3-4 times. My inlaw has one as well but without the flash hider. I really want to get it off and Tacticool22, I was just looking at some of your stuff including the barrel removal tool as well. I didn't know you were in Oregon.
