I am new to this forum but have read alot on it, what a great place. Anyway, I have a Sd40ve, I love that gun. It is my first handgun but I have shot a few in the past. I have put around 80 rounds through it but my grouping is not as well as I would like. I can hit a pie plate at 20 yards but can group quarter size with my bow at 70 yards. I can group quarter size well over 200 yards with any rifle I have. I am wandering why? I take my time and make sure the sights are lined up well. I have no fear of any recoil and I don't yank on the trigger. I am curious about this dry fireing I have seen on here, can someone tell me more about that. I was also wandering if maybe installing a laser would help me read the sights better and after awhile taking the laser off. What do you all think?

i say practice and practice the gun is accurite. You can watch Hickock45 on utube hit targets at near 100 yards with a SDVE.

Dryfiring doesn't hurt these guns so dryfire away.

80 rounds at a pie pan isn't enough to correct shooting style. Not only that, but 30 yards is too far to start from. Set up a proper grid sighting target at 7 yards, and practice. Once you feel comfortable with that, move out to 15 yards. If that's too difficult, bring it in to 10 yards, then when confident, move it back out to 15 yards.

Being that I have owned and fired revolvers for years, these guns felt good. If all you've fired are non DAO triggers, then you will have issues unless you practice.

It's like going from an automatic transmission to a stick. Sure, you've been driving for years, but it's takes practice to get used to it.

I know practice is in order which will take time. I will start with the dry fireing, I have some empties that I will most likely chamber to save the firing pin a bit. Thanks
