need some help with the wife

Luckily, my long time wife has embraced firearms recently, by asking me to buy her a 22lr pistol. I showed her the Ruger Mk3 bull barrel in stainless, she loved it. Now its hers and shes gotten quite good with it.
So, now she understands when I want to buy a new gun, but it comes with a price.
Im not a rich guy and I watch over the family expenses carefully.I know when we have the money to buy a new firearm and when we dont. But what I didnt realize it that I have to plan for double that amount coming out of the bank account.
Here is how it goes.
Wifey tells me she wants a new big freezer, she already has one. It works just fine. I stall, telling her we dont have the money and the one she has works great.
I find a great deal on a fire arm for $500 and buy it.
Within a week I get a knock on the door. There is a delivery man outside with a brand new freezer to be delivered.
She gives me the "look" that says, "dont even say a word"
Last week I found a Dan Wesson 357 Ive been looking for for dirt cheap, its mine now.
She came home with the new WI game system shes been wanting, two days later.
I didnt say a word.
Women will make you pay.
Its best to keep your mouth shut, especially if they cook your food.

Absolute pearls of wisdom. Are you truly a man of modest means? Is that you, Dr. Phil? :)

I've been married for almost 39 years, and feel like I am starting to get my wife somewhat figured out ...

Thanks everyone...I am really enjoying all the responses. And more importantly...learning.
I gotta add, my wife (25 yrs) started off with me getting her started with a 22mag bolt action rifle. Out in west Texas, plink plink, and she got hooked by the challenge to do well. I suggest getting the idea out of the way so the thinking doesn't interfere with the doing. Thats the fun, and try not to be Sgt. Major Kranky. Suerte! life is good.

My wife is my partner in life; I don't make decisions without her.

Ditto...but we both have jobs and agree we can both buy whatever we want as long as we can afford it.
The only thing she's ever said NO to me for is 2 wheeled GAS powered vehicles. Not that I want a motorcycle, but it's fun to make her think I do :D

My wife has gotten a new pistol or rifle from me and my son every Mother's Day for the last 5 years. She is tickled every time. After the first time (she got a 10/22), she said "This is great, can I get one every Mother's Day?" She's a keeper. :)

"Somewhat figured out you say" Now whos the Dr Phil? LOL
I dont even bother anymore, thats why I live out here in my garage.

I just tell my wife that a man's house is his castle and in this castle I'm the king and she's nothing but a lowly wench. If I feel like buying a gun, she has no say in it. Her only job is to serve me and when I tell her to get me my beer her only response is "yes your majesty."

Man, I hope she never figures out my password, she carries a 4" 66-3 .357 Magnum.

Snubby- it must be a WVa thing because that is excily how it is in my house too!!! Amazing! Of course i will say that my wife has no knowledge of this arrangement yet. Ahem....And I have not brought it to her attention. Uhh- you believed that right? Boy, I hope she never sees this or I am in trouble! Anyhow- it sounded good- at least from one viewpoint.

Well, what she doesn't know won't hurt you.

First, you are already behind the 8 ball. Do not bring that thing home until you have her full buy-in. Since you already have a gun in the house you need to figure out is there is something else she feels the money/time could be spent on - vacation/dishwasher/gutters, whatever. Maybe she feels like you are ignoring something that is important to her to buy something that is important to you? Not trying to go "Dr Phil" on you but you definitely do not want this to come up in a disagreement 10 years from now. Have you asked her what her objections are to getting the 15/22? My wife is usually ok with my gun buying habits, only a couple rules like food in the house, cars working, bills paid, kids clothed, and no guns on credit cards. Time for a frank and honest sit down, do not just bring that gun home. It will be more trouble/misery than it is worth. Women are odd creatures for sure, incredible but odd though - at least mine is. Communication is the key. If she is so strong against it right now maybe start with something a little different, 10/22, etc. Anyways, my advice is to talk to her, get her input on it and take her feelings into account.

I thought about getting married once..............

Whatever you do, don't think about getting married more than once.

Marry the right woman the first time and enjoy life together. The regular question from my bride (of 31 years) when I bring home a new gun is "where's mine?"

To paraphrase Chief Brody "We're gonna need a bigger safe".

I bought my wife a Sig Sauer Mosquito and she threw a fit as it was hot pink. So I took it back and got me a 15-22 and again she threw a fit. A big black scary rifle fit. Till I showed here it shot the same round as the 10/22 which a buddy of ours has with a 35 rd hot lips clip. And I asked her which gun was more scary? Fit ended.

OK folks...

Here she is!!! Model 811033 A1 style with compensator.

So far I have 2 more 32rnd promags on order.
Also I ordered 2 of the Raveneye Custom load assist buttons and to my surprise I got a bonus anodized blue one for free!
Optics is a Bushnell Banner 1-4X32 with high profile leapers rings - I have yet to mount it.
I now have about 1300 rounds of ammo at the house and another 3000 on order from online and GB.

The wife is coming around and I even caught her researching the local gun range where I will go and suggesting I take a lesson.

There is hope that I might even get her to the range someday!!!

Thanks for all the advice and suggestions...I think I am almost in the clear

I can understand where you are coming from. My wife had a bad tragedy in her family about 8 years ago involving a gun and it instilled a lot of fear in her. When she moved in she was uneasy around my guns and was always asking if they were loaded. When I got my CHP she thought it was foolish to carry a gun around. Well one night in Taco Bell a guy was acting really strange and after a few minutes she asked if I had my gun and that put her at ease and made it click. It also helped that me and bro-in-law went shooting and her sister shot the 15-22 and had a grin from ear to ear and that gave her the courage to try it and she loved it.

Best advice I can give is be patient. She will become more and more comfortable in time. Best of luck to you.
