Need Suggestions For What To Do In Vegas

My business partner, myself, and our wives are flying to Vegas tomorrow for 4 days. Going to the World of Concrete convention as we have for the past few years.

Thing is, I am tired of Vegas. I'm not a gambler, I've been to all the "shows" I can handle and then some. I've walked the length of the strip more times than I can count, and have zero interest in spending any time or money in a casino.

I've rented a 55 Chevy to cruise around in, seen the Hoover Dam, I've paid a crazy amount of money to shoot a few mags through a Thompson etc, just don't know what to do with myself while I'm there.

My travel companions have a few things planned (Lady Gaga concert, NHL game) but I'd honestly rather watch the back of my eyelids than attend either of those events.

There is a place where you can go drive a dumbed-down version of a trophy truck and take it over an off-road course outside of town but I'm kinda luke-warm on that idea too.

I am looking forward to eating a burger at In-n-Out, and it is a nice hotel we are staying at. Beyond that, I'm stumped here. Any help?

I'm actually really not looking forward to this trip, but I need to find something to do so I'm not a downer as my wife is really looking forward to this mid-winter getaway.

I'm planning on taking a couple books.

I re-read my post and realized it may have sounded like I was complaining about "First-World Problems."

I guess I should be thankful this is my biggest issue. I AM looking forward to some In-n-Out though!
 
I'm a fan of the one-arm-bandit, but Vegas alternative options escape me. If it were another season, a hike in Zion NP is special.

A stroll through the convention vendor area looks interesting, and there are some good courses also.

Drive up to top of Mount Charleston. The big peak with snow on top. A German style restaurant at top.

Go to Shelby factory.

Eat at Batisitas Hole in the Wall Italian restaurant. Old school Vegas- been there forever. Across the side street from Bally's Hotel/Casino.

Freemont Street Lightshow. Downtown.

There is an old Ranch where a lot of western movies were filmed. It is a state park now. In the area of Red Rock canyon. Don't remember name.

If you like Beatles music, to see "Love" at Mirage Hotel.

Dad retired there in 1992 so I went yearly until 2012 when he passed.
 
Besides In-n-Out,which as you know is a must,I am into cars. There is a great Porsche dealership as well as other good dealerships there.I enjoy looking at cars that are not available where I live.
 
Two more:

Golden Nugget Casino downtown. Eat their prime rib dinner in the restaurant. One of Dads favorites. Great prime rib at reasonable price.

If you are into Golf there used to be a Big Callaway learning center, driving range, Pat 3 course and big store. On the strip down past Madalay Bag near airport.
 
SHOT Show isn't really an option, doubt I could cobble together credentials.

Red Rock Canyon? Will look into this.

Eat/drink/gamble/get a hooker? A bit/a bit/nope/nope (and not just because MY WIFE will be there with me!) There is supposedly a bourbon bar at Mandalay Bay I might go check out after we check into the hotel, as the wife will be taking off to go to her concert as soon as we land.

Zion NP? Will look into this as well. The concrete convention is not actually as exciting as it sounds (hard to believe I know!). I usually go the first day but by noon I've seen everything I need. Most of it doesn't really pertain to me, its more for vendors/suppliers. As a contractor my methods don't really change too much year to year. I look at the various forming systems to see if there are any new breakthoughs, but haven't come across any that blew my hair back yet.

Have seen all the various buggy/car/gun/etc rental places. As a person who has various jeeps, cars, dirtbikes, atv's, guns already, none of these really jump out at me.

Mt Charleston? Will look into. Been to the Shelby museum multiple times, everyone I know already has hats and t shirts from previous trips haha.

Restaurants, meh. I work away from home most of the time so eating out doesn't even appeal to me.

Been to Fremont St every time I've been to LV. Will look into the Ranch, I do like Westerns.

Saw the Beatles Cirque show, was pretty good. Have seen several others, didn't enjoy them. Walked out of the last one 10 minutes in and cabbed back to the hotel.

Walking through car dealerships doesn't really interest me, although I do love cars.

I might be really hard to please, maybe why my wife is fed up with me by the time we fly home from these trips.....

I suspect I'm the absolute opposite of what Vegas wants in a tourist. At least the hotel has great beds, and balconies with comfortable chairs so I can put my feet up with a glass of whisky and a book while the wife is out.

So far on my to-do list:

1923? bourbon bar @ Mandalay Bay.
Find liquor store with Blanton's or Four Roses.
Nap while wife and others are at hockey game.
Dinner with our main supplier Tues night at a steak place in our hotel (Cosmopolitan).

That's all I've got. Been to the Mob Museum, not a golfer, been to the Nugget, but not a fan of prime rib.

I'm a real wet blanket!
 
My wife just asked me if I want to go to the Zombie Burlesque show. She must be desperate to find me something to do. Not sure if there's something wrong with me, I don't even want to see

I don't drink or gamble, and Vegas is one of my favorite places to vacation! We've been there about 15 or 16 times. We stay in a resort about four miles south of Mandalay Bay, and we always rent a car. We've seen a bunch of the big shows.

Red Rock Canyon is a few minutes away, and Valley of Fire State Park is an hour north on I-15, both well worth visiting. My favorite show is "Love" at the Mirage. I've seen it twice, and I'd go every time if my wife would allow it. My favorite museums are the Mob Museum and the Atomic Bomb museum. Hoover Dam is worth seeing, too.

I like the roller coaster at New York, New York, and ride it every time we visit Vegas. Sometimes we drive down to Primm (about 40 miles south on I-15) and my wife will shop the outlet stores and I'll go to Buffalo Bill's and ride Desperado, a giant roller coaster you can see from 10 miles away. They also have Bonny and Clyde's car there.

There are things I do there every time we visit (In-n-Out Burger!), and I always pick out things to do I haven't done before.

We will be there with friends at the end of March. I'll be going to the gun show at the convention center (never done before) and rockhounding out near Lake Mead (something I do every time).
 
I know how you feel. Not a gambler ( except to get free drinks while playing cheap slots. I told my wife if we go again, to just drop me off at red rock canyon and Zion Park and let me wonder around. Beautiful country and totally different from what this old hillbilly is used to. Now if I was a single gent then that would change the whole game. Either way enjoy your trip.
 
My buddy went to Vegas a while back and rented a yellow V-12 Lamborghini. He took it way out from the city and opened it up on the highway and at 150 mph he said it was like driving a normal car at 70. His top speed was 172 but it got pretty scary and he had to shut it down quickly.
