It's also known as the .38 Military & Police revolver. The "-6" was a heavy barrel version. Yours probably shipped in the early 1970's.

Chad gave you good information. There are actually three screws holding the side plate on. One is hiding under the stock panel.

I’m not sure if it still holds that title with the proliferation of the Glock pistol but it surely did for years.

Wadcutters would be more fun, IMO. It'd feel like shooting a .22, IMO. Good accuracy too.
