I still don't have a 5" N frame in my collection. I have a 3" 624, a couple of 4" 625's (45 colt & 45 acp), a 6 1/2" 25-3, and a 8 3/8" 460XVR (ok, not an N frame but it's still a 45). As you can see I need a 5" to fill in the gap. At this moment S&W is offering new 629's in 5". I think the 629 would be a good big brother to the 624. Now my question is does S&W always catalog the 5" 629 or is it just every so many years? I'm a little cash poor after just picking up that 25-3 last Monday and don't really want to put it on the credit card. What do you guys think, do I need to jump on it now or am I taking a risk waiting to save up the extra cash.

Buds has the PC 5" 627 8rd .357... (it's an N frame)

Thanks but I don't collect .357's yet. I'm staying with the 45's & 44's for now. My local gunshop has a 629 5", just wondering if I can afford to wait awhile or if I'll miss out and production stops on this barrel length.

My 5 incher.....gun that is.

I only have two 5" N Frames. They are a pair of 625-5 in 45 colt. The one on the left is the shooter, and the one on the right is the safe queen. The pictures do not do them justice. It is an awesome shooting gun. Nice balance, and very accurate. Hope you find yours soon. Happy hunting.

Stu those are some fine firearms. Wish they still made those.

Thank you. They only made 1500 of them, but they are still around. I searched for one for years. Then one day at a gun show I was working at, a gun vendor I was talking to said he had two of them. He brought them to the gun show the next weekend and I bought both of them for $500.00 each. I thought that it might have been a bit high 4 years ago, but I really wanted them. Now seeing what they are worth, I am glad I bought both of them. You will find one eventually. I still see them around. Unfortuantely they are usually out of my price range for another safe queen. Best of luck on your quest.

Well I learned never to second guess what I paid as long as I got what I wanted. I don't want to say what I paid for that NIB 25-3 I bought last week. Some would say I paid to much, but I paid just enough to take her home with me :) As soon as I figure out how to post photos from my iPhone I'll postsome up.

I should be getting back into town tonight. I'll check with him tomorrow. This one is still on order, if it's still not in that will give me more time.

i have one ,i suppose it was an serie made for an german importator like FRANKONIA OR KETTNER ,write on the full lug barrel "classic champion",buy second hand don't have the original wood grip, matt satin finish.

A solution might be to find a texas wagon train commemortive (model 544). Being a commemortive they seem to run less than other 5"s. They are in 44-40. I have a 5" 29-2 and the 544. Except for caliber and the gold engraveing, and barrel not being pinned you cant tell the differance. If there is such a thing as a "sleeper" S&W, I have always thought it to be this one!

IMHO, you couldn't make a better choice for an "N" frame shooter. The 5" barreled "Classic" has the best balance of any handgun I own and I have a bunch.

Keep in mind the "Classic" series has quick changeable front sight blades which is a feature that should be standard on all new "N" frames...

I can't say how long they will continue to be produced but I can say everybody should own one....:)

Ok, stopped in at my local shop today and it was a 6" not a 5". Went by my other local shop who I new had one on order and they said it's been on back-order for quite some time. I ended up taking home a Talo 3-5-7 magnum series 3" to keep my Lew Horton 624 3" company. That Talo is a 686+ 7 rounder. I guess I'll just keep an eye out in the future for a 25-5 5" like Stu's.

Hey Stu, you wanna sell me your safe queen for my birthday next January ? :)

I always strike while the iron is hot. I have found that whenever I put off a gun purchase I end up never seeing that particular configuration or model again. Buy Now! As mentioned, put it on lay-a-away if you have to.

Loco Weed I know what you mean. Unfortunately the 629 5" has been on backorder for quite awhile. I'll keep checking in on it. That Talo 686+ 3" was just to hard to resist and at a good price.
