I stumbled across about a dozen videos recenlty posted by Nelson Ford on YouTube. They go into really good detail on the history, working and gun smithing of Colt 1911’s, S&W “K”. And “J” frames.

No BS at all and pretty thorough. All worth watching and if you do your own work you should be happy about what you are watching.
