After owning two Kawasaki's, a Honda and now a 1987 BMW I always maintained that I would never own a Harley. Like the title says... never say never.
Not quite a year ago I got back on two wheels purchasing a classic 1987 BMW R80 RT from my next door neighbor. Ron is a great MC mechanic and had just restored the Beemer and made me an offer I could not refuse. Fast forward to the present and... Much to my surprise (delight), my bride decided she wanted top start riding agin too.
Now the R80 (800 cc), is a great bike but for two up and longer trips could use a little more HP. A casual comment by Ron the other night over a cold brewski indicated he was thinking about parting with his Harley. He simply did not need that much bike and where as I was thinking I needed more bike a deal was quickly done.
Ron agreed to take the BMW back in trade for what I originally paid him for it and for a very reasonable sum of cash sell me this:
It is a 2010 HD FXD Dyna Super Glide 1584CC with all of the bells and whistles with just 18,250 original miles. Took all of a nano second to realize this great friend just wanted for me to succeed him in ownership of this fine bike, done deal!
Now I used to tell the HD jokes and kid my Harley owning buddies which of course they always returned with gusto. All it took was a short test ride to know I had found my ultimate scoot. The power of the V twin is off the charts and while I am no crotch rocket, go fast guy... mama, I am home!
So never say never, you might just have to eat your words and mine are going down real easy knowing what is now out there in the garage awaiting my next ride.
