After owning two Kawasaki's, a Honda and now a 1987 BMW I always maintained that I would never own a Harley. Like the title says... never say never.

Not quite a year ago I got back on two wheels purchasing a classic 1987 BMW R80 RT from my next door neighbor. Ron is a great MC mechanic and had just restored the Beemer and made me an offer I could not refuse. Fast forward to the present and... Much to my surprise (delight), my bride decided she wanted top start riding agin too.

Now the R80 (800 cc), is a great bike but for two up and longer trips could use a little more HP. A casual comment by Ron the other night over a cold brewski indicated he was thinking about parting with his Harley. He simply did not need that much bike and where as I was thinking I needed more bike a deal was quickly done.

Ron agreed to take the BMW back in trade for what I originally paid him for it and for a very reasonable sum of cash sell me this:

It is a 2010 HD FXD Dyna Super Glide 1584CC with all of the bells and whistles with just 18,250 original miles. Took all of a nano second to realize this great friend just wanted for me to succeed him in ownership of this fine bike, done deal!

Now I used to tell the HD jokes and kid my Harley owning buddies which of course they always returned with gusto. All it took was a short test ride to know I had found my ultimate scoot. The power of the V twin is off the charts and while I am no crotch rocket, go fast guy... mama, I am home!

So never say never, you might just have to eat your words and mine are going down real easy knowing what is now out there in the garage awaiting my next ride.

08 Ultra Classic. Sorry for the lousy picture that I had on my computer but I am too lazy to take another right now, but here it is. :)

Years ago when Harley sales first started to soar one of their execs was being interviewed and was asked what makes Harley owners different. His answer was that many owners of other makes had tattoos reflecting their favorite brand but Harley had owners with Harley carved into themselves.

Congrats, nice ride! In over 47 years of riding I've owned most brands, like 'em all. Currently have a '14 FXDF, pic will be up later. Almost traded it for a soft tail but this thing out handles every other HD I've ever had.

Kind of funny talking Harleys and bringing up handling LOL.

Very nice! I pretty much like anything with 2 wheels. I have owned a fair number of bikes over the last 20+ years. So far, no Harleys. I no longer do many longer rides, so the one I have now may stay in the garage for a while. An '06 V-Max.

It is one thing in life I do miss .. not riding any more .. sold mine back in 2001 after I was in an industrial accident at work in 2000 and blew out L4 & L5and had to have them caged with a rod or two and permanently dislocated my tail bone ..

Pain just to much to allow for me to ride .. tried 2-3 months after the accident but it just wouldn't allow me .. just too much pain ..

Nice Ride !!

Oh, I like Beemers just fine, I had two.

But I like your new bike better than your R80RT.

My BIL just bought a Harley V Rod. He's a 60ish attorney.

Here it is:

After over 700k on various Hondas I'm not willing to change. As long as they get you there and back the brand you ride doesn't matter. My present ride has +/- 118,000 with only oil changes and a few tires. I can't complain about my choice.

Congratulations on your new to you Dyna! She is a great looking bike!

I had my last ride on 21 May 2007. I had a 2005 Road King Classic, that saved my life. An inattentive motorist with a health condition crossed the center line and hit us head on. The Cadillac that hit us was totalled on the spot, the King is a parts donor in Italy, and I have just completed my 24th accident related surgery. Fortunately, no other surgeries are on the horizon.

Nice Superglide.Had a 2002 Superglide put about 30000miles one up.Wife wanted too ride more rode with me one summer and wanted abigger bike.So I sold Superglide and bought a 2007 FLTC she rode 1 summer then left. I realy miss that superglide.

I really miss that superglide. Now that's probably so true.
Yep you got a good scooter for two up cruising. Be safe and enjoy the wind.

Congratulations! I love my 2013 BMW R1220R, but if I could have more than one motorcycle, my second one would be a Road King. There's just something about that classic Harley look...

I hope you and your new machine enjoy many happy miles together... :)

CONGRAT'S

My first ride was an omen of things to come. At 13 sneaking a ride & dumping my Bros 1960's? Norton commando, & app 15 yrs with a KZ 650 with numerous bike-car collisions, crashes from too much speed, drops from sand/ice/oil at toll booths, it took a beating & kept on ticking. Finally I sold it before my # came up. But I was a point a-b rider as fast as possible, not a tourer. An HD café racer was my dream bike. Cage riding is much safer (for me), but am still a lousy driver, just ask my wife. Dinged up her car just a few weeks ago. Enjoy & stay safe.

2008 Ultra. Just sold couple of months ago. Guess my
Harley days are over.

2010 Heritage I had before the Ultra. Nice bike.

OK one more....1993 Heritage with lots of chrome and mods. Should have kept this
one! House as well.

1995 Harley custom. Stretch frame, complete race ready engine ....awesome. Scared me a lot.

Someone say Harley?

Congrats on your new scoot. Attend a few Harley state rallies and you'll meet the nicest folks and have a great time. If you're not a HOG member you need to look into it. Great benefits. Ride safe!

Here's a pic of mine and my brides Roadkings taken a couple years back on the Cherohala Skyway.

No my wife wasn't. The "us" referred to the bike and me. I truly believe that he saved my life, it takes a lot to total a '97 Fleetwood!

I was on my way to work, teaching. It took about three weeks to get home from work that day. The helo medivac crew said that they lost me twice on an 8 minute flight to the trauma center. I am actually surprised that I survived the butchers at the trauma center, they missed so much! Now that I have seen specialists out of the shore resort area, I am receiving much better health care!

Nice looking bike Steve.

I've always had bikes since I was in early grade school. Minibikes, enduros, motocross, go-fast street bikes... but never really thought I'd be riding a heavy and slow V-Twin cruiser. But as the years went by and I got heavier and slower it seemed like a good fit. :D

Enjoy your new bike.

Depending upon where you bought it, I probably talked to at least one person in the dealership, especially if they couldn't print somebody's sales contract.

Been there done that, got the scars to prove it.

(busted knee due to faulty kickstart:o)

Unless i take home the grand slam lottery win, no more Harley for me :(

Buddy of mine in England has been a Honda fanboy since I've known him. He said he would never own a BMW, but he now rides a K1600. He said his mistake was to sit on one at a bike show and find that it just plain fit.

I've never owned a motorcycle, but I have considered getting a Can-Am Spyder just for grins.
