Ok, I'm beside myself. A week ago I picked up a Marlin 60 up from GB, had it shipped to my FFL LGS, while poking around the counter I spot a new trade in nickle model 19-4 I think, 2.5" barrel, she's a beauty. I ask him to park it out back until I can dig up some dough.... I'm out the door. After I leave I can't help but to keep thinking about the blued 3" 10-7 that was next to it, also a new trade in.. doesn't matter, I got the one I wanted a nice 357mag in great shape.... but that 10-7 stayed in my head, so I finally stopped back in to check it out, now I can't afford nor should I even be looking at any guns for a while... can't help myself.. I have him put it in my hand, it was beautiful, I mean stunning.. the blue was pretty good, I like the 3" heavy barrel, I'm beginning to like shooting the 38 and 357 revolvers and this one to my surprise has some kind of custom looking trigger and bobbed hammer. The trigger and hammer are like a polished SS , like I said the hammer is fully bobbed and when I cautiously pull the trigger it is the smoothest lightest DA trigger I have ever felt. almost like an Apex trigger job on my M&P40. I knew right then and there I had to have it... I just picked it up any ideas on what it's worth and what it is. The best I could see in the SW book is that it may be a left over from an Australian contract? But the grips look like a round butt and not the square butt the Ausie gun had... workin on pics..

Sorry I can't be more helpful, but I can only say that I wish I had one. I had a chance to pick one up last year, but passed on it (the wife was with me). I still regret it. I hope you enjoy it.

Thanks, I'm still trying to get pics online, it really is a sweet gun...just heard email click.... yep, one picture is here, 3 more to go.. there coming,.

Here we go.... can anyone tell me what the trigger and hammer are...

Turbo 3.8 liter Grand National?

Edited after pictures;;; You have a modified model 10 3 inch.
The hammer and trigger have been polished and smoothed.
Some may find this desirable,, collectors frown upon this type of mod.

Hey, I understand your angst. But you should know that the 10-7 was made in a 3inch round butt.
No contract nothing special.
That the hammer has been bobbed is a bit of a detractor.
One can always butcher a hammer. But to find one intact is a
thing of beauty.
The 3" model 10 is not quite as hot as the 3" model 13 or even the 65.
They have the option of firing 357 Magnum and 38 Special.

What kind of grips?? Modified as you describe take 10 to 20% off a
pristeen 10-7 3" with correct p.c. magnas.

Read that as $350. MAYBE- $400.

The shininess on the trigger and hammer are just the case color
having been removed by polishing. Again not a plus, but a minus.

Good luck

Thanks Allen, that's awsome, I appreciate your response. I figured it as a shooter, no doubt with the mods I am looking forward to some range fun. I may play with some different grips. $375 out the door.. so looks like it was fair for both me and my LGS...

and yes... I'm a GN nut.. have a TType that runs 8.30's at 168mph in the 1\4 mile.. that was my son driving that pass and me on the sidelines praying to God... :)

Well Jack, you knew you didn't get hurt.

If you can carry where you are that will be a dandy little carry piece.

You can pick up a K frame service hammer and trigger
for about $50. bucks and restore it easily if you want to.

Drive safely!

Go shoot it. The hammer and trigger have been polished and look like a very nice job was done on them. Along with the trigger job, lightening the hammer by removing the weight of the spur sometimes causes misfires, so GO SHOOT IT. If you get misfires, you will need to increase the mainspring tension to make up for the loss of weight in the hammer to get that mandatory reliability. A super smooth trigger pull that misfires creates a high dollar paper weight. Nice thing about S&W guns is that most anything is fixable.

Nice gun

Question

Don't take this wrong, but I thought that the -6,-8, and -10 guns had the heavy barrel profile frame, and the -5, -7, and -9 guns had the standard barrel profile frame. It's hard to tell from the pictures, but it almost looks like a 3" heavy barrel was placed on a standard barrel profile frame. Does any part of the rear of the barrel not match the frame contour? Even if it has, it's still a great shooter. I think the Australian guns had a medium, non-tapered diameter, somewhere between the standard and heavy.

No problem, I'm good. The Australians were tapered or whatever they called them barrels. The heavy barrel was offered as an option as noted in the S&W book. Everything looks normal and lined up, I checked a few of my other revolvers, looks pretty good. If there was a barrel change, would there be any markings or stamps to identify it..
