“New” 1006 Mags - Kinda Sorta

The plates show up from time to time on Numrich. Gotta sign up for email notifications and pounce when they get 'em!

Awhile back I needed 45xx & 10xx mags & wound up buying 20 each 45xx plates off Ebay at $10 a pop. Two weeks later I get an email from Numrich that they had 'em at $3.36 (IIRC) each.

You can make 10xx plates by shaving a bit off each side.

I'd like to thank everyone for the invaluable information. I recently purchased a 1066 and it's only coming with one magazine. I started compiling my parts list and placed an order with GPC tonight. I know I paid a little more for a couple of items than at Midway but they don't ship to Canada and GPC does. I looked at using a 4013 base plate catch but those are out of stock at GPC too.

It looks like I'll do an order for items that Midway has at great prices and have them shipped to a firm just over the border. I'll post up some photos when I get mine assembled.

It's not "scalping" it's supply and demand. The 10xx are seeing a resurgence in popularity, but S&W doesn't make magazines for it any longer.

People who have them are asking what the market will bear. People can buy, not buy, or hope that something like this comes along so they can build their own for less than the market is for complete magazines.

They must be popular due to the prices. The funny thing is I've only ever seen one 10mm in person, and it's the 1066 that I bought. I've never seen someone shooting one at the huge range I'm a member at, nor do I know anybody besides myself that owns one.

I recall reading on here that over 50,000 10mm 3rd gens of all models were made. They certainly are the hardest-to-find-somewhat-common-gun ever it seems. I also have a like new 4566 that I got in a private sale along with 5 magazines. I gave less than half of what I paid for that 1066. With the five .45 mags factored in at market prices, I got the 4566 for $200.

I have 3 spare 1006 magazines on hand now. Has anyone seen a magazine tube fail (crack) through regular use? If not I will just stay with the 3 extra magazines I have. If they do fail I will buy at least one replacement tube.

I'll go on record as saying that I haven't seen a genuine S&W pistol magazine body crack or outwardly fail in my life.

Is it possible? Sure, I think anything might be possible. Is it likely? I think it's lottery-odds kind of unlikely.

In my experience, you should be able to expect decades of normal service from any 1-2-3rd Gen magazine.

I went ahead and ordered a magazine body from GPC and the rest from Midway. Hopefully all arrives and works ok.

You can never have enough mags. :p

Three of the four 10mm mag bodies I got from Numrich have "MS1" on the front edge of the mag body (& have the AccuGuide logo on them).

All my other 10mm mags have either "ES" or "ES1" on the front edge. Don't know what they signify, manufacturer?

I received the tube from GPC. All is copacetic with it, it appears NOS with storage tarnish. Can't imagine why GPC hasn't made these into complete magazines. S&W must've surplused off a lot of the unassembled tubes for them to still be available all these years later. I understand they aren't a high demand item but still.

So now I have 5 total magazines for my 1006. Probably enough at this point!

Looks like the 10mm magazine bodies are finally out-of-stock at Numrich. I'm sure prices for the 10mm magazines will really go crazy now.
