New 15/22 going back to S&W

New member, been lurking for a couple of weeks. Wish I would have done that before I bought the rifle. New 15/22, one with the flash suppressor, but no magpul. DTX5xxx, red star, blue spring in bolt. Thought I might be in the clear with the blue spring, but got to shoot it today finally and looks like i will be sending it back to S&W. Here is my range report:

Rem Golden Bullet - had a brick already figured I would try
- 30rds (1oob"first experience with one of these", 1ftfire, 2 fte)

Win Subsonic
- 10rds (cycled fine, didn't leave bolt back after mag emptied)

Fed Bulk
- 50rds (1oob, 1ftfire, 1fte)

CCI Mini Mag RN
- 50rds (2 ftfeed, could have been a mag issue, they were back to back)

CCI Stinger
- 25rds (no issues)

Of the ones I shot on paper, CCI MM RN gave me the best group at 25yds open sight, followed closely behind fed bulk. Stingers gave me the worst grouping by far. I grouped MM, Fed bulk, and Stinger. Shot the rest at iron plates at first just to see how they cycled.

Update:
S&W is having there annual outage, so they can't work on it until middle of the month. Called my dealer, he told me to bring it in. He shot it and it had an oob. Agreed to swap, apparently he had to reorder since I purchased because my new one's serial is DUR7xxx vs DTX. Had blue springs in the bolt and trigger assembly. Can't wait to take it out and see how it does to different ammo. Love the gun even though my first one gave me problems.

Thats pretty cool of him to do that. I have a DUAxxxx and have had zero problems with it so far. I'm about to hit the 1000 round mark on mine this weekend.

Yes indeed! That's a dealer with whom you want to continue doing business! Mutliple OOB's? Wow! Sounds like there was a problem with that rifle alright. My DTX has been great so far (knocking wood over here)... Grey bolt spring, Yellow trigger springs (JP's) and thousands of rounds with maybe a dozen feed/eject issues all together.

GOT A BRICK OF 550 RDS SHOT THRU MINE WITH ONLY ONE MISFIRE,BUT CAN'T REMEMBER THE NAMEBRAND ON THE AMMO. I ENJOYED THE HECK OUT OF SHOOTING IT.HOPE YOU GET YOURS ON THE RIGHT TRACK.

2nd Update:
Stopped back by the range before they closed. Didn't have time to go home and clean the new rifle before I shot it, typically a no-no for me so I expected a couple of problems due to this.

I fed another 150rds varying the above ammo. Absolutely NO issues!!! Even with the ole rem golden(50rds for my final test)

This little thing is very fun when your not worrying about OOBs. I can't wait go again, next time with 500-1000rds with me.

Out Of Battery - round isn't fully chambered when it is detonated. Not a pleasant experience.

The lube that's in the gun from the factory is more for preserving than cleaning. The way these things sell, they don't seem to need any preserving. Here's what the manual says:

I doubt it makes a big difference, but I like knowing what my guns are actually lubed with so I always clean a new gun. Sounds like you got a nice one.

Yes, I should have cleaned it first. I think this is the first time I have ever fired a new/used gun without cleaning it first, you never know whats there. This time it worked out for me without having any problems. It has now been fully cleaned and lightly lubed with good ole Hoppes#9.

Yea the lube from the factory is a thicker preservative lube that is primarily for moisture resistance / rust prevention.
